can't use another upgrade

I just asked Best Buy if I could use another person's upgrade on the same family plan, and they said no. I would have to go to a sprint store to do that, and I would not be able to buy from Best buy with a discount.

Anyone else have this same problem?

Do you have another Best Buy close? Maybe even try going back and asking a different employee. I am doing this to get my Evo. I made it very clear the day I went in and pre-ordered and they said it would not be an issue. The whole purpose for going to Best Buy is to avoid the MIR, which if you do what you want to do at a Sprint store, you are going to lose the MIR. I don't know if you just talked to someone that didn't know they can do it or not but they can do it.

I just confirmed and set up my account for an upgrade today. We have 3 lines on our family plan. None were available for a full upgrade. I spoke to a rep about paying the ETF so I could upgrade. They set it up no problem, My girl's line was available in November so I had to pay a $50 ETF, which they billed my account, we just used the upgrade on her son's phone to get her the Palm Pixi. Sprint confirmed this was easy and is noted in my account. I was prepaired to use my $75 credit off the retail, Sprint made my day.

Yeah the radioshack employee said that i couldnt upgrade on a different line then switch to my line for like 30 days or something but im sure i can convince sprint to do it for me

Now I'm worried! I was about to head over to best buy to preorder, but I'm going to be using my dad's upgrade and giving him my old phone. I figured when I initially activate it it will have to be on his number, but then I assumed I could switch it onto my number.

I'm bummed.

Yeah. The staff person that was helping me actually missed the briefing they got on the EVO preorder the day before. So she verywell may have been mistaken.

Just leave the store and change the ESN on sprint.com, easy as pie.

yeah, they all have a different story, RS told me the phone had to stay on the line for 6 months. BB said they can swap it.

Yeah, don't worry. You can use someone else's upgrade on your Family Plan. I asked at Best Buy if I could do that and the guy told me they could do it for me. If not, just do it yourself at Sprint.com. As long as the MIR is instant, then it's all good.

I just did this 2 weeks ago at best buy. I had to call sprint afterwards to switch the phone numbers associated with the phones, but it's definitely doable.

I am not eligible for an upgrade until july, i used more of a gorilla warfare type tacit. I called telesales, and asked if i could get the phone as an upgrade they said no, well i said transfer me to cancellations and i told the lady look, with less then a month on my contract i am tried of my blackberry and if i have to wait a month i will just buy an iphone. she put me on hold, and she came back she told me to refreshed my upgrade date so i am able to now upgrade instead of waiting a month. sprint is to afraid of losing customers. i was wrong but it worked, and now we are both happy

Although I feel bad for doing this to sprint, back when the Instinct was the Hottest phone I called up sprint, my sister, mom and I were all sick of our upstages, they sucked, so I told em what can we do, verizon can give us a great deal on some new phones, and we had been customers for 9 years at the time (now 11 years). We were still one year from the upgrade price, all 3 of us, she came back with a price on one of the phones for like 30 dollars off the new customer price, and I said is there any way you can go lower, we just do not have a lot of money, but our upstages are horrible (btw, I sold my hero and have to use my sisters old upstage, cause my upstage was broke, until the evo comes out >_<). So she comes back, I can do half off. To make a long story short we got 3 instincts delivered to our door while there was a huge shortage, each one costing half the price as the new customer price even though we were all 1 year from upgrade, thats why I like sprint, they will give you an offer if you just try, and if you get a bad sales rep, hang up and call again, you have to get the right one, I think they even credited us for the activation fees and free shipping of coarse
