Gonna Stick with HTC or move on ???

What's going to be the choice of peoples next phone ?

Are we going to stick with HTC ?

Has the slow or non existant updates put people off buying another HTC ?

Personally the lack of updates hasn't put me off HTC. Custom Roms make up for that. I haven't had a single fault with this phone in nearly a year. HTC make solid phones even if they drag the updates out.

Its either straight Google or HTC still for me, think I'll research the most upto date device when my contract is due. Hopefully an Evo 4G

Am sticking with my Hero for now.. will probably get a new phone Q4, Qualcomm just announced a dual core snapdragon running at 1.2GHz, plus you've also got nVidia Tegra2 system coming soon too, so that's what am waiting for now!

P.S not going with a sense phone any more learnt my lesson with the Hero

Sense is a nice UI, sadly HTC have left a nasty taste in Hero users moths with updates, but what other devices released at the same time as Hero have an official 2.1?

I've had my Hero for nine months atm. and still loving it, but last week I got a SIM-unlocked HTC Desire from my employer. So I'm staying with HTC for some time

But when the time comes to buy a new phone I don't think other manufacturers (Samsung, Motorola, etc.) are going to be better at keeping their phones updated. There is not much money in it for them, especially if they can get people to buy a new phone every 6-12 months.

The only solution I can see is going for the reference handset from google, they are more likely to get timely updates and be maintained as google does not have to rely on the 6-12 months "phone-cycle" to make a profit.

get a linux based phone that you can update easily. htc too much locked down. can't do all it promised. new update will give it more power, but it ain't coming. what does this say about the company???

100% agree with this...but eventually the others will catch up in the same way that Nokia was once top of the pile.

While there's enough people to keep replacing their hardware just because the software is out of date, they'll get away with it.

I've only had my Hero for just over a week so I'm still in that 'wow' phase.

Really if it wasn't for knowing that an update to a better version of Android was due, I'd be perfectly happy with the phone for quite a while.

Anyone who got the phone and didn't go on these kind of forums must be blissfully unaware and what a nice surprise it'll be when 2.1 arrives!

Well I was playing with my mate's Nexus One and was really impressed with the speed, specially with the pinch the zoom on it so I bought one! I can finally use Google Goggles, latest ver of Google maps plus more

Enjoyed my Hero and I hope the update comes out soon so I can try it on it before I sell it.

The official 2.1 release has just made my Hero my best friend again, our relationship has been strained recently using ported CDMA cooked ROMS, but this GSM release makes the phone like a new piece of kit.

I'm not really the type to obsess over what I haven't got. I suppose I'm the sort of person that you'd struggle to sell a phone to actually. But I'm happy with the Hero, it's a little bit under-powered but I knew that when I got it, other than that I have no complaints.

Looking forward to getting google navigation going on it, but that didn't exist when I got my phone so I'm not going to get all angry and self-righteous because I haven't got it. Prior to Android any phone I got I was stuck with for the whole contract, at least this one will see an update at some point. I think that's a massive plus, not something to complain about.

Yes, Villains v10. It's uber stable, even using haptic feedback typing in thiswindow works.

I went to sprint and checked out a an EVO today. I dunno man it was cool and all but the screen was a bit fuzzy. Big, but not as clear as i was hoping. And the same hickups and delays that my 1.5 hero has are still there at times. I want it and i will get it but its not my life's mission at this point.

I think these tech sites play these releases up for clicks. Ill get the phone but its not OMFGBBQFTW!RAR!! Or maybe my hero has jaded me, dam fine 80$ phone that hero.

While the delays in 2.1 initially annoyed me I have mellowed somewhat. Running the custom ROMs are great but there are still many annoying bugs even in the best of them. If HTC released an official update where gps was wayward or MMS didn't work there would be hell to pay. But with the guys making the ROMS in their spare time we're happy to overlook these minor things. I hope the HTC delays are so they can properly test the update and ensure they release a stable update.

So at the moment I will consider HTC again when my phone contract is up. If they finally release 2.1 in a terrible buggy state then I might avoid them in future.

I agree with this entirely. Plus I'm tied into my contract with my Hero until March 2012 so even if I wanted to change I'd have a bit of a wait on my hands.

I'm using the modaco rom based on the Taiwanese GSM 2.1 rom and it is fantastic.

Couldn't really say what I would get. It depends on the hardware of the phones available at that time. Software is not really an issue as I would be rooting straight away anyway and with LauncherPro I'm not sure that I would even miss SenseUI.

I am definetly not done with android but i AM done with HTC...

I have seen this kind of behaviour with regards to cutting costumer support as soon as i bought the product and every time the company that had this bad costumer attitude went bust after a couple of years.

I will probably never buy a HTC product again unless google somehow make the OS on the phone independant of the manufacturer....If some day google makes android so that i can always update to the newest version without having to wait for HTC to never come through on their promises i might consider them but never again will i buy a HTC product until that day....

In my little world, product manufacturer's only get to burn me once before i leave and BOY do i feel burned with the hero.....

This is my first HTC phone and smart phone, i couldn't be more impressed. Yes the dragging updates are a pain the ass, however the amount of custom roms make up for that. Personally im just waiting for the up-date to be released. The amount of brilliant apps available and the customisation available on the phone itself are amazing. If you get board or don't like something then change it, by far the best USP. I would stick with HTC for a while now, well worth the money ( iv lost 1 and bought another
