Google Navigation - Evo

For those that have directly compared, how does battery life (in general, not evo specific) compare when using google nav and sprint nav. I usually use google maps to navigate (no turn by turn though) and it got me all the way to atlanta on my TP no problem (about 5 hours) but in using sprint nav, I completely drained it on a 1 hour drive to the beach. Will turn by turn on google nav have a similar super draining effect, or is that a telenav specific issue I noticed? I think the source of my problem was that google maps let the screen go off while I was cruising I-75, but sprint nav kept it on the whole time, recalculating and talking gibberish the whole way.

Speaking of Google Nav. this was just aired on our local news last night, Woman sues Google for having her drive on the wrong side of street where a car hit her. To me it about common sense. Worth a read.

I hope they have the sense to toss this out. Navs provide advice and are no more liable than a passenger telling you to turn right when there is no right turn. The driver is responsible for driving, not the nav unit.

If nav were like auto-pilot and actually controlling the car, maybe I'd think differently.

True... I failed on the car charger on both of those occasions. I used to have one but it has since disappeared. I do have an inverter that stays in my car all of the time now, with a USB outlet. I guess I was just typing for the sake of typing.

Yeah i had to change that to walking from driving. Hoping that get throwing out as well.

My Garmin has pedestrian, bike, and auto modes. It does not have the ability to tell me "stay off the highway, pedestrian." Navs don't always get directions right, especially driving directions. Some cities even have one-ways in the morning and reverse of the same roads in the afternoon. Navs struggle with that.

If my car went caput, I'd take the nav out and use it to figure out the best/closest way to get to the nearest source of help.

The suit's just crazy.

I can see people being worried about battery life with nav in situations where they might be with someone else who's driving without a clue. I have friends and family who don't have nav, and it would drive me crazy to not turn mine on to get unlost. I try to drive 100% of the time, but I plan for the 1 time I can't.

When running google nav while walking (or taking the bus), I've gotten in the habit of manually shutting off the gps radio (I put a widget on my home screen). Google nav likes to keep the gps on all the time even when you are on battery. This is fine in the car when plugged in but not while walking. So when I need an exact fix I just pop the gps on and let my location update then turn it back off. Net result is instead of draining half the battery in a couple hours there's barely a dent.

Also, I have to say privacy fears aside, I'm liking the google wi-fi location versus gps since it saves on battery so much. On a walk yesterday around a downtown shopping area, connecting to the open wifi networks (using the auto notification alert) fixed my location fairly decently via latitude while the gps radio was still hard powered off.
