Future (VERY NEAR) Network Issues w/ Sprint?

So after seeing all the "madness" with the EVO launch, does anyone think that there is going to be issues with the network when all these 4G phones come on line Friday and Saturday? This reminds me a bit of the iPhone 3.0 release and all the issues that people had. I am apprehensive about Sprint's ability to handle all the new "business". Any opinions?

It's possible, but who knows. We'll know by next week. If there are issues, I'm sure they'll fix them. I can't believe a company as large as AT&T still has network issues, but at the rate Sprint is bleeding customers, I doubt they'd follow that example.

Sprint already handles much more data that AT&T's crappy network due to their sale of "mifi" devices. Their network is already much more stable and widespread than AT&Ts. Not worried one bit.

I am familiar with it. It has been in San Antonio for quite a while now. My home area is "supposed" to be covered, but the signal is just about unusable, due to the elevation of my property.

I am not starting shit...I use my phone extensively for business and I am soliciting SOLID opinions if this might be an issue. I certainly hope it is not, especially since I hold quite a bit of stock in Sprint...

Sprint has far more capacity than AT&T and just as much as Verizon. Nothing to worry about.

Sprint is 40 million subscribers behind ATT but has a data infrastructure almost as large - there should be plenty of room to add new subscribers without major problems. iPhone brought swarms of people when it was introduced and with each subsequent release. Evo will sell well, but not that well. If it sold that well, HTC would have to have an Evo-only operation consuming 50% of it's resources. They're not planning for that so Evos won't be available fast enough to cause the same problems.

Will hiccups ever happen? Perhaps, but unlikely to be anywhere near the level that ATT had. One of the major reasons for ATT's issues is that calls and data go out at the same time and ATT doesn't have the backhaul structure to handle it all. That's not Sprint's issue. In addition, some of the really data-hogging activities are going to be best enjoyed on 4G. Even if they can be done on 3G, I don't think people will given the time investment. It's a lot nicer/faster downloading and streaming on Wimax than even a good 3G CDMA.

And of course, I think Sprint/Clear will bring Wimax much faster and to more people than they ever imagined. If they get Biz client support, it's going to crank up the Wimax deployments. Biz accounts are far more lucrative than individual accounts and could boost Wimax deployment if B2B for Sprint really takes off.

...you clearly haven't been paying attention to all the subscribers Sprint has been losing over the past countless number of fiscal quarters.

Yes, Sprint's network has plenty of capacity to spare.

I don't think they limit the sales, but they've acknowledged and done a lot of network buildout in greater NYC area. They push wifi in Times Square though because those towers simply cannot and will not ever be able to handle the amount of traffic concentrated there.

Haven't ever had issues with Sprint's 3g coverage so as long as you are in a good location for their service it should be fine. Having the option of enabling wimax for big files and streams is icing on the cake when you are in an area that has decent coverage but that is a relatively new thing so it may not always be there. I helped test it in Baltimore in 2008 and it only ever dropped out on a block or so when riding the bus. At home service is great and I use it for my home internet service. Assuming there aren't any major issues with the phone itself, it ought to be a worthy flagship device.

No power? I'll be among the few in Evo nation around to use it. We'll be plugging in whenever and where ever we want. I'll want to at least get my final goodbyes in on video chat. If I stay on ATT, I might get that final vid-chat to even connect
