Root To Root or not to Root

The biggest reason I'm probably going to root is to remove the sprint bloatwear and install a mobile hotspot application of some sort without the $30 fee.

Outside of that it'll probably make application development for android a little bit easier but there aren't that many other advantages to it.

I'm pretty hardcore when it comes to programming and hacking also, I just don't see a lot of need to go too much further when rooting. I'm not going to be out there installing custom ROMs, wiping all my phone settings in the process, when stock HTC ROMs are fully functional.

I would remove sprint boatware. More ram, more storage memory, less icons to look at ill never use.

Tapatalk. Samsung Moment. Yep.

Basically, you only need to know that rooting has no cons to a person who can follow instructions. It is very easy to do and to un-do. When the official instructions come out there will be a million detailed step-by-step tutorials that will hold your hand through everything. Don't sweat it, and enjoy the added benefits of root.

I'm rooting for a few reasons. For one, I've got an iPad that's wifi only, so I need to be able to make my phone a mobile hotspot without paying $30/month. That's a huge reason and enough for me to root right there.

For another, I don't like Sense. I much prefer stock Android, and with a Froyo port already in the works, this will let me have my cake and eat it too. Pure stock Android and the newest version to boot.

And the other thing is I actually like to underclock my phones to eke out more battery life from them. Although I might be so in love with the EVO's speed that I leave it be. We'll have to see.

Few questions on the process. It says put the zip file on the SD card.
-Is this by plugging the phone in via the cable and merely dragging the file to the root of the card?
-Then it says to rename the file on the SD card after it's done....do I need to leave that file on the SD card forever....as long as it's rooted anyways?
- Will I lose sense?

Lastly, I rename the file by plugging it in again and accessing the card and do a simple rename?

1. yes, mount it per the notifications option on the phone when you plug it in.
2. I don't know which method you are using, but I don't think there is any real need to rename it.
3. no, once you have applied it, you can delete the file off your card
4. not unless you install a ROM that specifically says so (AOSP, Helix Launcher, etc.)

You can rename it through your computer as well with the SD drive mounted.

I am reading from these directions.

He mentions renaming. Any idea if the end result is "Senseless"?

yes, I believe you can either rename the file or just delete it once you have rooted the phone. But please let me verify before you go ahead and do something that his instructions do not say to do! Just rename it and leave it on there for now. I would rather not help you unbrick your phone through the internet! :)

No, you will NOT lose sense and probably not even notice the difference unless you try to install apps that otherwise wouldn't have ran without root access! If you ROM it to Froyo, you will lose sense till HTC ports Rosie (what they call sense) to Froyo and someone cooks a new ROM with it for the EVO.
