hi all..my question to you all that have used both is...

what do you prefer? is the official more responsive/less laggy/buggy or worse?

has the battery life improved in any way?

has reception changed at all? and what radio is installed with the official release...is it the normal 1.04.01.09.21?

i did not change to the official release so that i dont loose my root..but i wanna see if its worth loosing it..

any opinion? :D

TBH, your going to get lots of different responses, because obviously there are people who got much different results than others. But heres my opinion:

1) Its near flawless for me. Battery life is nearly as good as it was in 1.5, if not better.
2) Haven't had any major glitches. (a few SenseUI FC's but thats all, but I use LauncherPro now)
3) Its as smooth as its ever been for me.

My final arguement... couldnt be any happier with my Hero. (Even tho Im getting the EVO asap. ^_^)

After all that work of getting you rooted, I vote stay rooted :).

But in all honesty, I would stay. I don't feel you'll gain any real advantage by switching to the official 2.1. You will loose root until it is fixed. Look at it this way, what can you gain by going to the official 2.1? In my opinion, nothing. I see you are running Fresh 2.1.2 as am I. I also update my radio and have been very happy with everything :). The way I look at it, is you can do more with it rooted, and still have 2.1.

So long story short....

If you want to have your cake and eat it too, stay rooted and keep using the custom ROM's :)

haha oh no you read this!! (considering you hand fed me through this whole process) but only reason i asked because of the battery life and reception..i still havent found a radio that works good..all of them give me minimal reception..

Battery life is no prob for me. If you are having poor reception, that will of course affect your battery life. Have you always had poor reception though? Might consider an alternative, I think it is called an Airwave, or something like that from sprint. Is your reception poor everywhere or just at home?

also, you know how to fix my sprint tv? i get an error message saying you must be a sprint customer to view..

simply, i like having the same official update, minus the by product i.e. sprint crapware. I also like wifi tether; the ability to do backups from recovery; HTC IME keyboard mod for mic/voice input on keyboard; customizing lock screen, etc. to my liking. Installing cools apps which require root is a bonus. For instance, I'm about to try android screencast, as I'm lookiong for a replacement to soti's pocket controller. I also like the androidremote app, which I think also requires root.

I was a skeptic until official came out, as I didn't want to deal with quirks of earlier cooked rom builds, but am a genuine happy camper now. I have more faith in the community to improvise or fix than sprint or htc.
