Last check - Has anyone figured out how to move their contract upgrade date up?

I am a Premier member. My "yearly" upgrade rebate is up on August 1. But I oh so badly want the Evo NOW.

I thought I'd ask this question even though it's probably been asked a thousand times, just for the sake of timeliness. Has anyone successfully figured out a way to bump up the "New Every 2," or "New Every 1" upgrade rebates?

Thanks.

Lets try baby steps.

1. Add a line to your account
2. Buy Evo on new line
3. Get a friend to take over a line and pay for it using the family share plan give them your old phone and let them know they can upgrade it in august if you want.
4. Or you can just cancel your new line pay the $200 disconnect fee and be out around $418ish. I would just buy it new at the sprint for $450 and sell your old phone before that though. If you old phone is worth anything its not a bad deal to buy it outright because then you upgrade is free'd up for the next 2 years.

the two people I know of that have bumped up their eligibility date asked to be transferred to the cancellation dept and threatened to switch to the iPhone. I don't normally condone stuff like this, but it's just an eligibility date and I don't think it is that big of a deal if you're eligible in 1-2 months anyways. good luck

Thank you! I must be extra slow this morning, though. When you say that if I were to just buy a new phone outright then my upgrade is freed up for the next 2 years, I did not think it worked that way. Are you saying that if I just buy the phone, then the upgrade does not kick in? I thought that your upgrade reset each time you obtained a new phone, no matter what?

This is what worked for me.

You have to be prepared to leave Sprint though.

Talk about you would like for Sprint to move up your upgrade date, be very nice to everyone. The first rep will not have the power to do it, tell him to transfer you then because you would like to cancel service.

Explain that you really wanted to get the evo 4g and the 2nd phone you would want is the new iphone, since the unlimited iphone contract is going away in 4 days, you either want your eligibility moved up, or you want to cancel service.

At this point the rep that your talking to should have the power to change your upgrade date, this is also the person that has the power to give you a $10 discount for the next 24 months.

At this point if they still refuse to move you up I would be so pissed that I would cancel.

I bought my Pre in the first half of June, they said my upgrade was not eligible until July. I went to the sprint store, they couldnt help me, I called CS he couldnt help me, I told them I want to cancel then, the next guy I was transfered to was awesome, had lots of pull, and moved up my eligibility to May. He then also kept trying to get me to ask about a discount. Hinting at it kind of, so I did, and he said I can give you a $10 credit for the next 24 months. I was so stoked. Made me a really happy customer.

My original upgrade was on July 1 and it was moved up to May during May.

Like others have said call in and ask for the retentions department. Tell them if you can't move your upgrade date up you are going to switch to Verizon and get a incredible, will take some work but you might be able to get them to do that.

If not you can buy a phone for $450, it resets your 2 years but not your upgrade time, so you would still have a upgrade ready in aug. So basically you would have the freedom to buy something better if it came out sooner and could sell the evo.

Worst case with bluffing when you are all done being stern and threaten to cancel you can just say you are going to take a few days to think about it at the end and never cancel.

^^So you are saying to just go all out and bluff, and if they call me on it just tough it out and pay the $450 for the canceled contract and new phone. And at least that way I can upgrade again in a year. Correct? However, I'd be able to upgrade again in a year anyway since I'm a Premier customer. But I think I see where you are coming from.

I had mine moved from July 6th by threatening to cancel. But I was threatening to cancel over an entirely different issue (Sprint refusing to honor the warranty on my Palm Pre), and wasn't looking for anything other than them replacing my Pre. Cellular South will pay your ETF if you switch to them, so the fee wasn't a big deal to me. So they offered me a Hero or Moment, and when I told them I didn't want to re-up for a those phones now because I was waiting for July to get an Evo. So they bumped my date down to that day, and the manager at the store has one set aside for me tomorrow. Supposedly with a nice discount, bill credits, and a free accessory, but we'll see if they'll honor that once I get there. Might have to threaten again :)

Nope if you buy the phone outright form Sprint (so full price of 449.99) it doen't extend your contract. I do this with a few of my lines for my technicians with cheap phones to free up upgrades for expensive phones. I have one line that the actual contract was fulfilled in 2006 (meaning it is just month to month). Honestly I find the whole Open a New Line and then transfer or ESN swap or number swap or whatever people come up with exhausting and way too many things can go wrong. One thing that a friend of mine has done is asked me to get him a phone using one of my upgrades via Sprint Online.. when you do that the phone arrives unactivated and then I just gave it to him and he activated it on his line.. took two seconds and he gave me the money for it so no big deal. FInd out if any of your good friends have Sprint, an available upgrade, and no desire to use it. You can use theirs now and then let them use yours in 2 months

Wouldn't there be some kind of waiting period before I can get the new contract discount? For example, if I were to terminate my contract for $200 and buy a new phone for $200, can I do all that in the same phone call, with the same rep?

Umm if you are willing to do that for 400.00 why not save yourself the headache and just buy it outright for 449.99. Plus you keep your Upgrade if you want something else in a few months

Ya well they screwed mine all up. When I changed rate plans last year for some reason they made my wifes phone the primary line. I figured this out about two months ago and since then have been trying to get it fixed. I have been told to give them two payment cycles and poof i could get my upgrade on june 4th. Well guess what here we are and poof nothing has happened. I have been on the phone all morning and been told that even if they do fix it I can not get the upgrade til july!! My primary contact person (from dan@sprint) was on the phone with me the entire time. She had us on a confrence call with someone in the primier department. The lady in premier told me she could only go to july and then offered to let me speak to her manager. She transfered the call and we ended up with a voice mail. My dan girl was not happy and stated that she was going to do some more work and call me back and gave me a credit of the minutes I had used for being on hold for almost and hour. I am gonna give her some time then call back and try retentions. It would not be so bad if they had not made this mistake in the first place. Besides what is one month to them? But then again what is one month to me other than they have had my hopes up for a month now about being able to get this phone only to be let down in the final hour.

And I am guessing your wife's line doesn't have an available upgrade yet?

Really, August first is not that far away. You probably have a Hero, enjoy it for a couple of more months.
Getting crappy on the phone with somebody to try and force your trump card sounds like a complete pain in the ass. And you know they are going to make you fight for it.
If you want one that bad, buy it outright on a credit card. In 2 months you do your upgrade and sell the new one for $450 on ebay, and you come out just a little past square.
I feel bad for the poor Sprint customer service Reps.

+1 for this

Considering you're premier, and almost ready for the 1 year upgrade, I'm not sure how much bluffing is going to accomplish, I still don't think you could cancel after one year. Considering you're 10 months in a 2 year contract, you might be pushing it a little bit. I'd call, ask nicely, and see where it goes. You might be better waiting until August anyway, make sure there aren't any problems with the launch batch. I imagine you didn't pre-order anyway, so you might need to wait a week at least regardless to get the phone, depending on availability in your area.

no not even close. Now they say i used my upgrade last year when i upgraded her phone. At that point i had already changed my rate plan and they had changed the status on us and I did not know it. If I had known all this last year in december I would have not used the upgrade and just bought her pixi outright. This is crazy!! they said they would call be back before 4 today but this is not looking good for me!!
