3G not unlimited? (or just an error by Sprint?)

Since the EVO has been made available on Sprint.com, I noticed this link in the EVO's description;

4G Plan, Coverage and Speed information


It says (Under "Speeds");

Download limt
4G All you can stream, browse, email, chat, watch and game.
3G 5GB

This is an EVO Specific link, which makes me wonder if there really is a 5GB cap on 3G service EVEN THOUGH we're paying the additional $10.

OR maybe the person who put this together just pulled the information from the mobile broadband cards and accidentally threw it in this EVO link?

Can anyone clarify?

just seen your pst great observation this has me very pised off now cuz if this is what sprints doing i will argue to get my 10$ fee waved i been a customer since i1000 came out

If that is true it is going to piss a lot of people off as unlimited 3g/4g is the argument Sprint keeps making to defend it's $10 charge. That and the kickstand of course.

If it is an error, that is one stupid error for them not to catch. If they would have forgot to list the kickstand I don't think it would piss people off in regards to the $10 charge, but an error on data cap, now the person who didn't catch that should be fired!!!!!

Maybe they saw AT&t's new plans and they were like screw it, lets limit our data as well then.

Sprint obviously is trying to copy AT&T from the start here, hence the special plan plus bonus charge to use the Evo. Thanks AT&T and iPhone!

Sprint failed their PR/Marketing class when it came to explaining this fee. Simply calling it an "experience surcharge" is not acceptable considering this is a brand new concept. Had they explained this from the beginning, we wouldn't have this backlash from simply not understanding it.

Nothings changed, those "caps" have been on listed for what, 2 years now? They're listed for the data cards and even so, they aren't strictly enforced. You just can't be roaming using data all the time, they will crack down on that.

Sprint (up until this point) has told us that the $10 "experience surcharge" removes any cap on 3G usage. If this isn't the case, than why not just call it "4G Access Fee"? The only reason why there's confusion here is simply because of Sprint's uneasy stance on what the charge really means. I guess I'll find out when I sign my new agreement and pick up my EVO in an hour! People, READ YOUR CONTRACTS! Maybe we'll find out more as people pick them up.

Uh, likely not... though there ARE people (like myself) that are going to be tethering pretty heavily. Most people won't ever go over this cap but I like to know what I'm getting into ahead of time.

Unlimited 4G is a given... But what if you're on 3G? 4G isn't fully deployed in South Florida yet, and until now we've heard over and over again that 3G cap will be removed with this $10 fee.

I've tethered REALLY heavily for long periods of time and never had any problems. If you're using some exorbitant amount of data, yeah they're going to be looking at your account. Like you said, we'll find out more in the coming days, weeks and months. But I'm not worried about it in the least. Maybe it shouldn't be worded as unlimited if it is truly limited, but I'd bet 99% of people won't have any problems. On top of that, they have been advertising the $10 as being a premium fee for a unlimited premium experience. They stand to gain a lot of ground here if they play their cards opposite of let's say AT&T. Guess we'll find out.

I saw this info weeks ago and posted it here way back then. Don't remember exactly where I saw it (it may have been one of the videos from the NYC launch event). "They" said 4G was "unlimited" but 3G was still 5GIG.

5GB/mo is about 166 MB/day so it will be a rare person who could actually use that much (I know, someone will, but I suspect 99%+ won't come close).

BUT: Sprint's website is so freakin' confusing that even this limit is not true (I think). The point of the chart is to show the difference between a 4G PLAN and a 3G PLAN. The EVO is a 4G PLAN (so there is no limit on 3G either). Also, as many others have pointed out, there is no limit, and has never been a limit, on 3G phone plans. The 5 GB limit is on the data plans for hotspots and computer cards. In fact, the "Everything" plans state this:

"Unlimited data on our network: Web surfing, email, BlackBerry Internet Services (BIS), GPS Navigation, Sprint TV and Radio, NASCAR Sprint Cup MobileSM"

So there, Sprint! You give us unlimited data, already. So why are you claiming unlimited service with a $10 premium data add on? Nobody has ever answered this question (that I've seen). Argh... (And if you are, in fact, putting a 5 GB/mo cap on me for my $10 then you really have some explaining to do.)

I think the bottom line is this (and I do NOT speak for Sprint so don't ask me to pay your bill if I'm wrong):

If you have a phone plan from Sprint, you have unlimited data on whatever device and whatever band you use.

I'd be curious to see if anybody with a phone plan gets a nasty letter from Sprint about excess usage... I think about the only way to do it is if you are a hotspot and they are charging you for that.

3) FACTUALLY WRONG in many cases.
I just compared the EVO, the HERO, and the MOMENT on the sprint website.... The Hero and the Moment don't have camera's? The Hero and Moment don't support 3G speeds? Yet, in the INDIVIDUAL phone descriptions:
"3G Speeds where available"
"Camera" of varying MP...
So, which is it? Does my g/f's Moment just magically for some reason get 3G? And the camera in it must be a manufacturing 'glitch'....
Remember, the first listings for the EVO stated it would have an AMOLED screen.

I just chated to a Sprint CS and they told me everything is unlimited with the EVO, 4G and 3G unlimited.
He told me the 3G limit applies only to the other mobile broadband devices such as the U301 USB device, the Overdrive mobile hotspot...
I hope he's correct and not just saying that so that I buy the EVO, but in any case they should clarify that on their website.

What wlll 166MB/day get you? 166 is like 16 youtube videos. Heck sites like engadget will suck down 1 or 2 MB. It will be really easy to go over.

Sprint has three classes of 4G devices:

Phones (currently only the EVO)
Standalone mobile hotspots (devices that send out a 4G or 3G signal as wifi)
USB mobile hotspots (plugs into a computer and gives you internet from a 4G or 3G signal)

The EVO is unlimited data on 4G or 3G. The two hotspot options are unlimited 4G or 5GB of 3G.

No, the EVO gets unlimited data period. Whether or not you're using it as a hotspot doesn't matter. It's only the devices (whose ONLY purpose is to be a hotspot) that have a 3G cap.
