alright i decided i will give T-mobile till Aug. 14th (my college graduation day) to come out with a phone that compares to the EVO or Incredible. i have the G1 right now and i know the MTS just came out and i have played with it and while it is a very nice phone to me it is more of a good smartphone not a superphone like the EVO or Incredible. i REALLY like the EVO from sprint and their plans are right about the same a month as T-mobile and i would love the 4G as they already have it in the DFW area (im pretty sure). i know there are rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S coming in July the only thing that worries me there is how samsung has screwed the behold 2 owners over with no upgrade plus no flash on the camera. i have had t-mobile as long as i have had a Cell phone and have never had a problem and would love to stay esp if this new HSPA+ network is as fast as the 4G but they need to step up their game with these phones. they only real SUPERPHONE they have is the N1 and im on a family plan and no way in hell am i paying 580 or w/e it is for the phone unlocked. so what do you guys/gals think. am i destined to switch to sprint or do you think there is hope for me to stick with t-mobile

You pay for the cost of any subsidized savings, one way or another. Is the 14th the end of your T-Mo contract? If not, what is the ETF? If you're going to keep the account past the 14th, just get the Sprint phone on July 15th, and make the most of the 30-day return policy.

I was thinking about getting the EVO, but decided to buy Sprint stock instead...made enough to buy (2) EVOs and service for (2) years.

I'm in the same boat as you Machine. I too have the G1 and I refuse to pay $530 for a freaking Nexus One because they want to be stupid when it comes to family plan members. If the Galaxy S or any other android powerhouse doesn't arrive before the last week in August, i'm transferring.

:)

I was in the same boat as you also.

I literally went crazy trying to decide between the HTC EVO 4G and the Galaxy S, feel free to check all my posts..lol...

I had actually reserved and HTC EVO 4G, but just a few days ago I called Sprint and canceled my hold.

I heard confirmation that the Galaxy S will reach T-Mobile in late July/early August so I have decided to wait for it.

Here's why.....

Galaxy S has:

-A faster, less energy consuming processor (Hummingbird)

-A better screen (Super AMOLED) Amoled screens are UNMATCHED when watching videos/playing games, also uses less energy than TFT.

-720p Video playback of 30fps (Evo showing only 20fps on 720p)

-DivX, Xvid supported

-Has Atmel maXTouch sensors for instant accurate feedback (EVO has this also)

-Smaller and lighter than the EVO

-GSM based meaning could be used in other countries, uses less battery consumption than CDMA

Take a look at these posts/threads:

For what it's worth I reside in Honolulu Hawaii where 4G is up and running and yet I chose to pass on the EVO and wait for this Galaxy S, that should tell you something about this phone, it is definitely worth the wait.

I would consider the EVO only IF:

-You don't watch a whole lot of movies on your phone

-You are not critical on how good pics look

-You want the 'latest most talked about gadget'

I'm in a similar boat, only difference is that I bricked my G1 via a radio update. For some reason, it just wouldn't boot after flashing then restarting the phone.

Anyways, I was thinking of getting the EVO too. The only thing that keeps me from getting a Samsung is, will they update the firmware whenever a new one comes out? Is there a Samsung community out there that can root the phone? Do I have the option to switch to the default Android and not there weird looking theme?

So all rumors say the Galaxy S is coming out in July?

..

There are claims online that Samsung will be updating to 2.2 Froyo this year on the Galaxy S.

I understand all the bashing towards Samsung for them not following up on their phones like what happened on the regular Galaxy and Behold. I myself used to own a Samsung i8910 Omnia HD which also lacked support, I had to input a custom ROM from HyperX just to make it decent.

One thing you need to remember here though is that this is their FLAGSHIP PHONE...they CANNOT afford to screw this one up. I mean think about it, WHY would they release it in so many countries at once and then abandon it??

NOT A CHANCE!!

And if you're worried about rooting it or trying to remove the Touchwiz check out XDA Developers, they already have a Galaxy S section...you know what that means....

thanks for the help guys. the only other thing about the Samsung is the no flash for the camera. i mean come on my sisters behold 1 has a damn 5mb camera with a flash. i will prolly wait till this phone comes out to make up my mind but it does scare me that they have a bad history of not updating. plus what is this June 19th that the stores are all opening early for anyone have any idea yet? i have heard a new sidekick but no way do i want a new sidekick unless it blows me away

Hmmm........I never noticed they had other manufactured phones on there besides HTC related stuff. This will be interesting indeed. :) Perhaps I will stick with my dumbphone until I hear what this "big news" is about.

IMO, flash isn't really that important unless you do a lot of close up shots or use it as a flashlight. Now, if it was xenon flash, a whole different story.

About the sidekick thing you mentioned. I doubt it's the sidekick and I hardly see/hear anything about the sidekick anymore. It seems like they are dropping it and backing up the mytouch series. If it is about the sidekick, then that will be very disappointing and I will be going to Verizon/Sprint.

actually, when you get a subsidized phone you're paying the same price(probably more) as the N1; you're just stretching out the payment over the length of your contract.

I think everyone is taking the BHII issue a bit too far. Just look at the specs of the Galaxy S and also look at the marketing campaign they have launched for this phone. Thats something the other phones didn't get. Also they feature a home dock, and well its not explicitly states I'm sure a car dock is in the works. Again something the other phones didn't get. So I'd say Samsung plans on supporting this phone, hell they used it to do some trash talkin to Apple's iPhone 4 and its "Retina" display vs the super amoled.

what's going on, are you living under a rock? the evo4g and incredible are both same phones as the tmobile Nexus One which by the way has gotten all the updates faster than any other phone simply for the fact that its the 'GOOGLE PHONE'. come on man its been out since January and these wanna be uglier replicas are just coming out!!!!!!

i've heard of a new sidekick that HTC will be making for tmobile. To me it looks like this phone will leave the Evo and the galaxy in the dust. Also dont go with samsung, they suck at making phones.
Anyways here are the specs:
1. Android 2.1
2. 1 GHz Processor Snapdragon
3. front facing Camera
4. 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display
5. 16 GB onboard storage.
6. HTC Expresso Sense UI

I just don't see how T-Mobile is going to release a sidekick with no keyboard. The fact that rumors say it will have a 4.3 inch screen most likely means it won't have a keyboard. If it does, then that is one big fat brick. Plus, sidekick was always praised for its keyboard and I just can't see T-Mobile going away from that. Who knows though since it's still rumors.
