Root Anybody know of a cool lockscreen that's not "apple-ish"

A linear slide lock in the lower 1/4 of the screen using a right-to-left swipe to unlock is exactly what the iPhone uses. the graphics may look slightly different but the functional and conceptual resemblance is unmistakable. It surprises me Apple doesn't have IP on it giving them ammo to sue Google.

Regardless, while I appreciate your opinion, it doesn't speak to the topic.

How about a twisting-motion lock or rhythm-tap (shave and a haircut or something?) anything that keeps me from pocket dialing and falls somewhere between the two stock locks in complexity and processing overhead...

I don't want the stock "pattern lock" (it's too clunky), just a simple (and FAST) lock screen that also doesn't scream "hey, google stole this from apple" like the stock slide lock does.

Okay, so I saw your post and thought..."hmm, I'll check" and now I'm glad I did.

I don't know if you have heard of "Flyscreen" but I found this article online from Aug 2009

FlyScreen Android App Makes Lock Screen Useful - Appmodo

So I searched the android market and saw that Flyscreen is there (free app). This app replaces your lockscreen with a similar tabbed interface (unlock on left, and the mute tab is replaced with an options tab on the right).

You can have a bunch of widgets including facebook and twitter, news feeds, custom RSS feeds, weather, calendar, SMS, etc. It's pretty neat to play with.

other then a swipe from left to right the stock lock screen is nothing like apples. that being said you did not describe in the original post that you wanted any special ways to unlock it other than a swipe. you said the pattern lock was to bulky so i assumed you meant to complicated.

there used to be some cool unlock apps for WM phones that used the accelerometer to unlock the phone with a set sequence of rolls or turns but i have not seen that for android. FlyScreen that UBRocked suggested above is the only one that i can think of that meets any of your expectations. i tried it when it was in beta and it was nice but it lagged a bit probably due to the widgets. however i have not tested a full release so i cannot speak of how it works now. give it a try and let us know.

Tried this one set it to run as lock screen instead of just and app... problem is it still brings up the default lock screen when I take the phone out of sleep... am I missing a setting here? Seems a bit useless if you have to unlock the screen to then unlock the screen... :p

I had lag, lock ups, and FC with this when I tried.
I may try again.

I have my sleep set to 400, maybe 250 impacts it?

Yeah...its a bit quirky. It actually works quite well on my phone but it does the double lockscreen thing on my wife's Droid (we're running the exact same setup so I'm not sure why that is). I'm leaving it for a day or so to play with it but it seems like it might be a little too glitchy for everyday use...
