so as everyone knows 2.1 for the HTC hero has many many issues, I personally am happy with the goodies, but terribly upset about the phone notifications of text (never vibrates or makes noise now regardless of settings) and also the fact that I goto message my friends yet when i click people under the compose section it has everybody's facebook too. I only want my FRIENDS facebooks linked with their photo, anniversary, birthday, and status thats it, I dont want their facebook number on my phone especially people that I dont have in my contacts.

My question is HTC going to be fixing these bugs anytime soon? and also will the hero receive the 2.2 upgrade or is 2.1 our final mark?

P.s. my service is sprint

idk about the other questions but i reaqd somewhere that only phones that are released in 2010 are going to get froyo and since hero came out last year, we weont:(

and i also read that our phone will have a hard time handling froyo anyways becasue our hardware wasnt made for it.

HTC Doesn't give a flying F anymore about the Hero. They rushed out their POS 2.1, and now their focus will solely be on the EVO, Incredible, and their other upcoming new devices. The HERO is done - nothing - no more - It can barley run 2.1, how the hell can it run Froyo?

They are not concerned about us - I have emailed them twice about the issues and I have not gotten a response, and this was two weeks ago. I am convinced they just want us to purchase the EVO, so they released an unstable software for this phone.

Scott, why don't you try rooting your phone to the new 2.1 root? I rooted mine yesterday and it cleared all of my "ills" regarding my phone. I now have the ability to also kill off all of the sprint crud that is on the phone. My battery moved 1 tick yesterday, the whole day. Usually I would be swapping my battery out to my spare 3/4 through the day.

You can fix the Facebook issue by removing the Facebook for HTC Sense account in Accounts and Sync.

I think most are scared to root in fear of bricking there phones, I have not yet and that is because I am not ready to do so, but from what I have read it seems as easy as updating to 2.1. So one day I may but for now I am not ready as there are many different ways of rooting with many different proggies to root, so choosing and deciding which one, I think is most peeps issues IMO

Scott... I understand your frustration as it is not consistent across ALL of the Hero's. but I would want to suggest trying again.

Have you performed a MASTER RESET of the Hero?

If everything has failed have you asked for a 1.5 Hero back to enjoy your previous happiness?

Biggest problem I agree with the Hero is BT problems... unusual that ANY connectivity would digress...

Truly though, it is NOT the Hero, as I hate to say it because I know it's not helpful, the Hero I have in my possession works great, fluidly and without any major issues. Have you ROOTED? I know you SHOULDN'T have too, but it might provide the experience you are hoping for and will certainly gain you more support than you might expect from HTC or Sprint as the Dev's are on the job over at XDA.

I was reluctant to ROOT, but did so once I knew I could, if needed go back to 1.5, but once having the 2.1 on my phone, that was not longer necessary as the 2.1 DOES work better on quite a few fronts. I would strongly suggest that you consider rooting your phone... why? Well, I have and only loaded the plain 2.1 with ROOT and Recovery function, no crazy ROM's or anything... Once I did that, I removed some of the Sprint Bloatware and HTC stuff I didn't need.

I can tell you, subsequently to doing this, the HERO flies!!! No lag, no hesitation. Although I know you've had issues with the landscape keyboard, with ROOT there are fixes for that too... you could load different keyboards to the phone. With that, there is NO LAG I have experienced otherwise, calls, texts, etc.

I'm not posting to counter your argument as to the Hero being substandard, as I have experienced otherwise and only make suggestions so that you might experience the Hero as I have. I feel if you were to give it a whirl, you would be happier and get the life out of the handset you expect and not feel the need to move on.

Anyway,
Happy Trails!

2.2 is supposed to be 4 to 5 times faster because of the JIT compiler. If anything the Hero NEEDS that to make it worth a crap.

Thanks for the post. I understand everything you are saying, and no, I have not rooted (obviously with all of the issues) and I don't feel like it should be necessary to do some work around to get the phone to work properly.

Don't get me wrong, I am sure rooting does wonders for the phone - but there is no reason why it should be working this way with an official OS on it.

I am not into reading heavily and dicking around with the internal codes and whatever, just to root it. I also don't want to void the phones warranty. It is absurd to have to go through a rooting process just to get a phone to work well. I also just don't feel comfortable with that process.

There shouldn't be any lag on this phone - because when I was on 1.5, I experienced no lag. Now, the keyboard lags, the phone takes between 10 and 15 seconds to dial a call, and my signal is noticeably worse than when the phone had 1.5 on it.

I have done a master reset and re flashed the RUU, but I experience the same issues. I could care less about the blue tooth issue, since I don't use that function. However - the tremendous lag is unacceptable.

I was one of those people anxiously awaiting 2.1 solely just to have access to the new apps, but now, I wish I could have kept 1.5. Having the phone work well as an actually communications device is far more important than some apps.

The Hero's outdated processor cannot even run 2.1 correctly. You are dreaming if you think it will run 2.2 with any efficiency at all.

If hero cannot run 2.1 efficiently does this mean that the legend has the same problem.

If i have understood it correctly the legend basically uses an identical processor to the hero, just optimized a bit so it can run at 600 MHz instead of the hero's 528 MHz

If this is the case then the legend is kinda shitty since it was introduced at a time where 2.1 was announced..

I was terrified to root, but once I did it, it was easy. I just followed step by step.
[GUIDE] How to Root Sprint 2.1 Release for CDMA Hero - xda-developers

Then once that was done, I was terrified on how to install a new custom rom, but I knew that was one of the reasons why I wanted to root. So that I could have live wallpapers and a clean, speedy phone.

Download: Fresh Rom 2.1.2 Geek For Me – Android CDMA Sprint Hero

Once rooted, here you will put the rom directly onto the root of your sdcard. basically, I plugged my phone into my computer, selected the open file notification on the computer when it pops up, and I cut and pasted it. At that point, you will turn your phone off, press and hold the home key, and reboot the phone. From there, a screen will pop on, it will be self explanitory. you will need to do a Nandroid backup, a wipe, and then you will install the fresh 2.1.2 located on the sdcard.
