What the pro & con of unlocked evo?

I want to buy an Evo but not sure what's the difference between unlocked and retailer. Can anybody please HELP????

I purchased my Evo on Ebay. One of the sellers I saw was claiming "Unlocked Evo for Sale!"

There was a question posted by a perspective bidder about the item on the auction page asking why he said it was "unlocked." The seller answered that since it is not "locked" into a contract, it must be "unlocked."

I think some people just don't know what they are talking about. Maybe this was the case?

i was watching ebay and they are saying they have the unlocked version... Do u think it's a scam? Also lets say it wasn't... what is the difference? what would be the pros for buying an unlocked phone?

NONE, you can't use it on any other network other than Sprint. If you unlock a GMS (AT&T/Tmobile) phone, you can use it on any GSM carrier. There really is no point in unlocking a CDMA (Sprint/Verizon) phone.

Since the EVO is a CDMA phone, it is correct that there is no standard unlocking procedure for it. However, some folks consider the "unlock" on CDMA phones to be extracting the 6-digit MSL (master subsidy lock) so that you can get into the programming configuration menus on the phone.

So...technically CDMA phones can be unlocked too. This is how Verizon and Sprint phones can be flashed to other carriers like Cricket, Boost, and MetroPCS.
