Typing on the Desire

Hi there, I'm new to both Android and HTC (my previous phone was a Nokia 5800 - Symbian).

Anyway - I was just wondering if there was any way to disable the large letters that appear on top of the key as you type the corresponding letter? It's really annoying when you're typing passwords and the letters just show up for anybody to see over your shoulder!

Thanks in advance

The other reason is that it lets you hold down the letter and then scroll through the other options associated with it (accents, special characters/numbers etc).

Having said that, there are lots of other keyboards in the app store, maybe one of those gives more customisation options to turn this off (I haven't tried any as the default one is fine for me) - the only thing that annoys me sometimes is that the "suggestion" feature pops up over the top of whatever I'm trying to write in Handcent, so I can't always see if I've typed the right word (which might not be what Handcent is suggesting), would be nice if I had the option to position this at the top of bottom of the viewscreen.

You can turn off the letters which appear when typing a password.

I can't remember exactly which menu it's under, as my Desire is boxed up and awaiting a replacement. However, I have definitely seen the option.

Thanks

What I actually meant though was the one single letter that comes up, just on top of whatever letter you've typed, not the word suggestion. Despite having visible password off, this still comes up when typing in a password field.

I haven't seen any option to turn this off either; looks like I'll have to refrain from logging in on the bus :/

This is indeed a very good question.
There is an option to replace passwords with a *** so therefore I am sure there is someway of not showing the popup letter you typed.
It's almost like a cash machine I used to use, they button highlighted in green until you pressed the next number of you pin, usefull for the guy looking behind in the dark!
