Please only post if you have owned an iPhone AND a Droid!

and to get things started....

I've owned iphones... the droid is better in rendering and speed. It's leaps and bounds above the iphone. I think the playing field is leveled and now here's my personal rankings

1. Motorola drod
2. HTC platforms on Winmo 6.4
3. ????
4. iPhone

Just my personal experience, I don't do BB's, and they work very well, so maybe ??? should be #4 :)

I have no experience with the iphone but this Droid is all money man! I'm a UI developer and I would have to say from looking at the iphone and seeing people use it.. its seems quite easy and does what the masses probably want it to do 80% of the time. To compete with that the UI just have to be right on and I think Google and the whole G experience is getting close. Perhaps with the new Rachel UI from Sony but we just have to wait and see.

I'm no apple fanboy but let's consider the things that the iPhone can do better and the type of audience it attracts.

The iPhone is leaps and bounds ahead in gaming because of its hardware acceleration and gpu, and its meant to appeal to anyone because of that.

Android is much much more capable than it was a year ago but I feel like to take full advantage of it you have to be semi techie (which I am). I don't think my wife could pick up a droid and be as pleased with it as she is with her iPhone without me getting involved and getting it all set up for her.

Plus, the grey stock theme is lame. The sense ui theme is much better.

"iphone killer" no, but better than the iphone, I truely think so. This thing IS all it is cracked up to be. I have had it all day and never been so happy.busy with a new phone. It is crazy. The iphone gets boring and aimless, This thing really is the next IT. it just needs to surface to some people. I don't think it will "kill" the iphone because (sorry if your one) many people could know it is worse but will almost give themselves up for an apple product. Especially an iphone. The iphone appeals more to the casual/older user because of its simplicity & brand name. As long as the iphone is still doing what it does right now, it won't kill it.. the droid would have to be like 3 times as good as the iphone and beat it in EVERY way, but it doesn't but it is a DAMN good phone, & i think it is the best phone on the market. Motorola has really turned itself around.

Congrats Verizon, Congrats Google, Congrats Android, & Congrats Motorola!

I'm more than satisfied.

Currently? I don't think it's an iPhone killer quite yet, but the potential far exceeds the iPhone. Am I pleased with it? Extremely. The fact that it's open source is a MAJOR advantage. The browser is just as polished, the touch keyboard beats the iPhone, the presence of a physical keyboard (although it needs improvement) is a key aspect for me, the screen is much better, and the fact that you don't have to jailbreak it to have fun with it definitely rocks. Although I came from a Blackberry, I think I'll be happier with this phone in the long run. I will miss Blackberry email though...I just don't think anyone can beat RIM at their own game.

iPhone killer...give it a year and I believe it will be.

That's like asking if Mac will be the Windows killer or vice versa. No matter how good either one is there will still be millions using both... The iPhone is here to stay and nothing will ever "kill" it.

That being said, the Android market has a long loooooong way to go before it can hold a candle to the App Store.

Thanks all! Be sure to hit the poll!

IMHO, and I mean In My Humble Opinion... I don't do Crackberries, so they could slide in as #3.

1. Motorola Droid
2. Current HTC Winmo 6.5 (don't even give a reply if your experience is on a tilt or older)
3. BB or iPhone

Sure iPhone has a gazillion apps, but how many of those do you use? I see the app store as a garbage dump of developers trying to make $0.99.

Sure the AD marketplace might go there, but I'm finding very relevant apps on AD MP!

Cheers! (omg are iphone referrer statements going to hit this website soon?)

I have had darn near every phone. So let's talk about iphone and droid. does it beat the iphone?? No. The reason why is the small things. Iphones email embeds pictures for one thing. Also when you want to enter a new url in droid you have to delete the whole thing with the delete key and the iphone you just press the x. The keyboard is better on iphone by just a little bit. But gosh I love the customization you can do with the droid. I had to take my droid back because it would not play wav files for my vm. But gosh I miss it. It really is so darn close. They did a great job, but unfortunately it is not there yet. It will be, just not yet.

I'm so sick of hearing "iPhone Killer" every time a touch screen phone hits the market. iPhone was NOT the first touch screen. I get the whole comparing thing but come on.. change it up.

You should add another option on the poll that says "No, but iPhone still sucks."

BTW, I highly doubt any phone will truly "KILL" the iPhone unless Apple stops making them.

The current Droid doesn't kill the iPhone just yet but the next gen Android will eventually kill the iPhone. If we compare the progress between Android OS and iPhone, Android progress is just amazing and eat the iPhone progress.

Android will grow because it is open source and has tons of developer backing it up.

Apple tight grip is no match.

The suppose strength of Apple UI is diminishing because the Android UI is very good, along the line of Google no frill style. And because it is opened, people will contribute to make it better.

Android is going to rule, which is why the firm Gartner forecasts that Android is #1 platform in the next 5 years, while iPhone is only at #3.

I've had every version of iPhone. I've played with a a Droid today and my current primary phone is HTC Hero. I just had to step in when I saw this post. I'm no iPhone defender, actually when all my buddies come over with their iPhones I would whip out my BB Tour and tell them they're Sh*t sucks. then they ask where mine was and I'd tell them "it's in the car (my iPhone)".

Anyway, I doubt that Google and Android will run away on Apple. Apple techs are smart. If they see the draw people have to customization and widgets, etc., they can easily make modifications to their base software to compensate.

iPhones are for a certain type of person, where as Android devices are for another. And generally speaking, BBs are in their own world of user attraction as well. that's human kind for ya.

Most of the used iphone apps belong to google. And Apple has pissed off google in the latest round.

If you had an iphone, would you still love it if you LOST:

Google maps
Youtube
Gmail

And other apps?

But this thread isn't really about that.

I think the droid pushes the iphone down a lot, there's something to be said about 3-4 year old iphone technology. But please vote, yay!

Its been said repeatedly, and I'd have to agree, the iPhone isnt going anywhere. Simple reason, too many Apple fanbois out there. (and girls of course)

Its the same reason that Apple wasnt crushed under MS years ago. You know, when you could walk into any software store and Apple/Mac would have a whole shelf of software to itself. Meanwhile the whole rest of the store was for MS.

Neither the iPhone, or Android is going anywhere any time soon. Its just that Apple put together a really nice package and the world uses them as the measuring stick for whatever reason.

Don't you think by the time the "next-gen" Android phones come out, Apple will have their own 8th Gen iPhone? (or 2nd Gen iPhone II)

come on guys... Verizon was doing the idont campaign and then released the droid with the same processor the iPhone had 6mos ago... I come from 10+ yrs of winmo and what a disappointment that ps has become. l am loving the hero and looking coward to the droid but disappointed to see some of the basics left out that HTC filled in nicely with sense and only 1.5 it will be interesting to see what they come up with on the HTC passion which looks to be the device I hope to end up with for a while.
But no way the droid comes close to the iPhone. the camera, video and multimedia aspects suck in comparison.

The quality and consistency of the Android apps destroy winmo but Apple destroys Android in that category. No one hates MS more than Apple but at least Apple has better Outlook desktop integration than android or palm pre, which by default makes It a better business device since the majority of business users use Outlook...

Android cut and paste is a mess and that is basic functionality... one thing most disappointing to me about all platforms outside of winmo is the lack of a native tasks app with reminders and snooze intervals. one of the basic tenants to time management is sweeping your tasks and to-do items off of your calendar.

imo all platforms have glaring issues, but for anyone to say the iPhone handset experience (with network quality being equal) is not superior to any other handset out there is delusional at best.

I am an Apple iPhone 3G user. I may be in the minority, but my rankings will come out a bit different. I am not impressed with the Droid. It is rather bulky and larger than I want when you slide out the keyboard. After using the iPhones virtual keyboard, I can match most with speed of word. The droid might have had an edge with the keyboard if they would have beveled the keys so you could feel them without looking. The smooth feel gives me no better edge to type without looking than a virtual keyboard. If you would have tested me on a Blackberry a few years ago, you would have been amazed.

My other gripe about the Droid is that it doesn't utilize 2 finger touch on the screen. Seems pretty crappy, when reviews claim the Euro model does.

Last gripe about the Droid. OREO effect. Poor design, much like the PRE, has allowed for poor hardware. There is a great deal of oreo effect with my brothers Droid. And that is out of the box effect. Poor! LOL - Also, the DPad is lame, but yet again I didn't play any games with it. Perhaps a little PSP Go feel to it :)

The iPhone won't die, because it is a far superior model to most anything out there. It definitely needs more ability to multi-task, but Apple won't budge on that because it gives it the advantage in speed. What kills the iPhone, and what has drawn me to a Hero in the next month or two, or Dragon if I can hold off closer to Christmas, is that ATT truly SUCKS! ATT is what has killed a very good phone (iPhone 3G) for me. If Apple would get the iPhone onto Verizon, I think the iPhone would be claiming more heads in the phone war than anything else.

So, my call is not death to the iPhone, but death to ATT, the most overrated carrier of them all....

:(
