Root After boot in 2.2, phone is unusable the 1st 2 minutes

After the phone boots up and Im looking at my home screen, the phone stays locked up for about 2 minutes before I can start using it. Is this normal? Everything runs fine after that, but it seems to take a long time. I am using Launcher Pro, but didn't have this problem before. The SD card icon is displayed in the status bar the whole time its locked up also.

are you talking about the first time booting up? If you have already gone through google syncing and are then rebooting it should take 2 minutes for things to work correctly. For me my phone is good as soon as the sd card finishes getting initialized.

I'm sorry, I have had this loaded for 2 days now. I know it takes a while the first time, but it still takes a long time each time I reboot the phone. It's not showing the sync icon in the status bar, just the sd card status message.

This used to happen to me in 2.1 as well so I'm used to it, although it didn't take 2 minutes mayber just 30 seconds. I find that it mainly has to do with the mounting of the sdcard. Some widgets get there info from the sdcard and that causes the bootup lag.

if you are seeing the sd card icon in the status bar that whole two minutes then I think you need to format your sd card. If I were you I would back it up the format it and then copy everything back. Pain in the butt but its the only way to defrag it.

Yea, its while my SD card is initializing. I really should have posted this as "My SD card takes about 2 minutes to initialize on each boot". It used to take about 30 seconds.

I have the droid connected to my XP computer and mounted. If I go into "My computer" and right click on the drive that is my SD card (Drive M for me), I can then select "Format" in the menu. that works too. Or you can use adb or clockwork recovery can do it as well

It might not make a difference, but I like the idea of the phone doing it. I didn't know it had that option. As a photographer, Nikon recommends that you only format your cards with the camera, so I'll use that same philosophy with the phone.

if you have a card reader use it cause mounting the sd card with the phone is slow

I'm interested in this as well...My phone is taking longer (though not 2 minutes) to boot due to SD card mounting. I was assuming it had something to do with the fact that it has 3 partitions (done to support installing the Desire rom a while back.) Please report your findings...

i tried it out yesterday and it took a long while for it to boot up and work properly. i went to take a 20 min shower, came back, and it was still slow as heck. after a while, it was better but it was still slow regardless. i don't know why but it was definitely not fast. scrolling form the screen to screen was laggy. trying to add a shortcut/widget was laggy. opening apps took a really long time. i dunno, maybe my phone doesn't like 2.2. i gotta wait til either pete or fab comes out with theirs and try it again. but for now, i'll stick with 2.1.

Did you reboot it? Everyone I have heard from all said the same thing (and I experienced it as well)... There is a lot going on the first time you boot up into 2.2 so it will be really slow at first, once it gets all synched up and running you should reboot the phone and everything should be fast and smooth.

ah reboot. of course. i didn't do that. the one thing i should've tried first, duh me. but i think i'll just stick with 2.1 for now either way. i read that there were some features of 2.2 that were'nt implemented yet. i wanna wait for the full package.

lol I was the same way... In fact I went back to my Jrummy's CM nandroid after only a few minutes. Decided to give it another shot and it is running awesome...

I'm going to play around with it for a few days and see how it goes, I might go back to Jrummy's after that though until CM works his magic after the source is released... I don't think people realize that this is a leaked build and in no way a finished product (like I said I'm gonna test it for a bit and then probably wait for the full package like you)...
