What is this option that I keep accidentally displaying?

I wish I knew how to take a screenshot already. While I was in the drive-through line, a lady came over to my window while I was holding the phone. When I rolled the window back up, I looked down at the phone I was gripping and there was a little pop-up window on the screen with some apps on it. One was to sync to my computer via usb, one was the phone, one was messaging, etc.

I had to drive, so I hit 'back' and forgot about it. Then, while wrestling for my wallet at the window, I somehow made it pop up again. It seems like a list of recently used apps. Is that the case.

Could somebody please diagnose this and explain how to do it again? Much appreciated!!

Pres and hold the "home" button. i'm assuming your bringing up the recently used apps window.
