Would you get the EVO if it was on AT&T?

Just had another thought.

For me, the switch was mainly about going to a provider that actually worked. i.e. no dropped calls, better service, more uptime etc. Obviously the EVO was a big plus to coming back to sprint - and the slightly lower monthly service charge didnt hurt either...

But then I thought - Would I buy the EVO if it was on ATT? Probably not. I'd probably head over to verizon and pick up the incredible, or wait for the another phone on sprint or something. Hell, the dell mini 5 looks pretty good, just really big (that's what she said) but it's on AT&T, and i do NOT want to go back to poor quality of service.

So, that said, I just wanted to check with you guys. Would you purchase the EVO if it was on another carrier? Was the purchase about the device? or was it about the service? Both?

oh.. awww...

HELL To the NO...

I am on Sprint because of the saving on their plan...
Had to deal with below par phone offerings and higher cost for the same phones.

In the Long run... I saved money with thier plans.

I would just wait for the next best phone on sprint.
Otherwise I would have the iphone 3GS... last year.

Finally Sprint has the best PHONE!!! but.. I have to wait till December to get the EVO... Mabye Maybe Maybe.. there will be a better phone in Dec.... :D

Heck I was seriously concidering a Backflip!

I would have...

Happy as heck to be goign with sprint. Excellent bang for the buck. If the EVO doesnt' work out for me I'll probably be suffering the new AT&T data plan with a N1.

I get a nice discount with VZW and it's just STUPID expensive. It make AT&T look inexpensive. lol.

AT&T generally works just fine for me (not on iphone). I have notied the data network going to crap in the last year or so. More smart phones / new iphone isn't going to help that any.

FWIW, I'll take the counterpoint and say "maybe". Given the 3G issues with the N1, possible issues with the DInc, flaky signal with the Fuze, TP2, and Pure, I'd say no to HTC before AT&T...as always, YMMV.

That said, in the Mid-Atlantic/NE, I've had no reception issues with a Moto Q, and get reception inside elevators in DC/Philly area. Coming from recent stints on VZ, where I had to make an antenna mod for my Droid, and poor reception inside "some" buildings on T-Mo with N900, I just reactivated my 2nd line on my AT&T family plan, in hopes of a decent Android slider device and sling mobile support.

Aside from the coverage area(s), I think AT&T got "more" of a bad rep due to reception issues with the iphone. I generally had fewer issues, in the same areas, than my co-workers with iphones, and reports of iPhone issues in other countries/carriers, lead me to think that poor reception was hardware related...just a thought.

Absolutely not....I have ATT now and they have no idea I'm leaving them by the end of this week. I just have to make sure I have phone numbers and Google Talk info for all of my BBM friends and I'm gone. ATT service is too expensive...I'm going to try to sell my iphone this week...probably won't get much for it. But between my iphone and BB i'm sure i will get my $200 back from buying the EVO.

Do you have any friends with other smartphone devices on AT&T who are also having reception issues?

You know, maybe the hardware does have something to do with it. I have friends with AT&T Blackberry's on corporate accounts and I never hear them them complain. Could be because the company Blackberry is free and they use it more for texting (delayed transmissions)? But then I have friends who have AT&T for wireless phone service only and boy do they complain. Beats me why they're still with AT&T. AT&T pretty much sucked even when it was known as Cingular in the S.F. Bay Area.

I've used every carrier, and unlike 95% of most people I actually travel out of the near by state and country. AT&T is fine, their customer service is fine, and so is their network. The sheep hate against them is cute though.

good for you... most people here have had AT&T previously including myself... Once I couldn't make a phone call out of my own house and always dropped the calls.. then I dropped them. I am not paying for something I can't use..

If it wasn't Sprint that I happened to be with I wouldn't care. I almost didn't go back to them either - I just couldn't fathom paying the extreme prices of Verizon. I hadn't heard too much about TMobile but my Mother-n-law has them now and her service is crappy...

Sprint and Verizon seems to be the only ones that get real service here..

Fair enough. I recently signed up with T-Mobile, and again, their coverage is good "in my area". However there are a few weak spots here and there. Someone posted that he was able to get reception in a local store, with a BBerry 9700. where my signal was marginal/non-existant with N900. From what I've read, BBerry's are fairly decent with reception, regardless of carrier...as always, YMMV. That said, I do have problems with an older Moto V365 on AT&T however that runs on 2G, and seems more susceptible to interference.

Carrier coverage/service is all relative...its all about who works best for you, "with your given device". People swear by Verizon, but I get 0 bars at my mom's house (she also has low/no signal with LG flip phone), and get multiple signal drops in the middle of the DC/Balt corridor, an area with:

- (6) Verizon stores in a 5 mile radius
- Both our houses (2) miles from (2) of those stores (which are a mile
apart from each other)
- Verizon CO a block from the entrance of my development
- (3) Verizon corporate offices/call centers within 10 miles
- One of the first areas in the state to get FiOS

...but again, this was only with the Droid, and the replacement I got, in an attempt to resolve the spotty reception.

The one interesting post was that in the thread about 4G reception with an EVO vs. USB stick. Seems like the EVO has weaker reception in the same area, where the USB stick has proven "solid" for the past year or so.

Likely not. I choose carrier before anything else. After comparing all 4 major carriers in my area, the lowest price with the best coverage goes to Sprint. I would pay more for AT&T and not gain anything for it. Aside from that, I prefer not to do business with them after they illegally wiretapped millions of Americans for the NSA. Not saying anyone else has to care about that but personally I find it distasteful and not the kind of thing I want to support.

At the speed that smart phones come out these days, you never have to wait too long for a nice handset so I choose based on price and coverage. If it hadn't been the Evo, I would have gotten some other high end Sprint device instead. As far as I am concerned, Sprint is the least lame option in my area.
