Need input. Is the Incredible what I want?

Long story short, I'm currently a Windows Mobile user and hate the OS with a passion. But I have endured and am eligible for an upgrade with Verizon on the 17th. I'm looking at the Incredible as the phone I want to get, but I'm not sure if it's what I want due to the backorders on the thing. Plus, there are heavily rumored handsets that may come out in July. Then there's the (admittedly remote) possibility of a Verizon iPhone. I'm looking for any input from current users as to whether this is worth my money.

My main concern with the Android is the lack of true hands free dialing, but I'm told this is fixed with Froyo. Of course, when that comes to the Incredible is still up in the air.

It all depends on form factor. The new phones coming out on Verizon are Evo size and bigger.

You need to hold one, put it in your pocket, play with it in one hand.

Then do same with Evo.

If Evo is way to big like it is for some, than you wouldn't want to hold out for the upcoming phones.

For me, the Incredible has been amazing and I recommend it.

The interface for one thing. I can't interact with mine in a real way without a stylus. It's an Omnia i900 so it's got an on-screen keyboard that just sucks. I can't surf the web on it without the stylus. It's buggy and apps crash on it all the time. I've actually got an iPod touch that I use as a PDA and the phone is just a phone and nothing else.

Firstly, take the VZW iPhone off the table. It is not a factor. Secondly, the Motorola will have a keyboard, but the processor is not as fast as the INC, from what I understand. Thirdly the Motorola will use the MotoBlur OS over the Android. I didn't like it at all when I saw it. I like Sense UI. Thirdly, the INC will be updated to 2.2 sooner or later.

Is the INC great? Yes. Is it perfect? No. We are waiting for updates. HTC promised me they were in the process of creating a new one.

Bottom line: They are both android. That's a plus, in my book. Good luck.

I couldn't be happier with the Incredible. Blazing fast, respectable battery life, extremely slim, beautiful screen, crystal clear call quality, and HTC Sense.

There will always be something around the corner, but I don't see anything that makes the Incredible look outdated coming for quite some time. If you really want, pay an extra $100 for the phone and only go on a 1 year contract. That said, this phone will still be awesome in 20 months when the 2 year contracts get to upgrade.

I don't like the physical keyboard. It's a personal taste thing. I find it big and clunky and unnecessary. As I mentioned, I've got the iPod touch and I use the virtual keyboard on it to e-mail and surf the web all the time with no issues so I know a good virtual keyboard is possible. I've never actually used an Android before short of playing with one for a few minutes in the store. I just know I want a change from the Windows Mobile and I don't want a Blackberry. The iPhone is most likely not going to be available any time soon which leaves Android as the last man standing and I've heard good things about the OS.

I was a Verizon Iphone hold out, but it will not be out at least until 2011. I would say go for the Dinc.

First, you're obviously sticking with Verizon and hate the WinMo OS (understandably). For smartphones (real ones) that leaves Blackberry and Android phones unless you want to wait until December for the iPhone.

Since you didn't even mention BB in your post, I'll assume you are interested in an Android phone. Your top two choices are the Moto Droid, and the Droid Incredible. IMO, the Eris is cute but not really worth discussing with these two choices given that it is relatively underpowered.

The major differences between the Moto and the INC, as I see it, is the physical keyboard. That is the first thing that hits you right off the bat, and probably going to be the deciding factor. For me, the physical keyboard adds way too much bulk, and as an past iPhone user I am more comfortable with the on-screen keyboard anyway. If you prefer to type on a physical keyboard, you will likely be much happier with the Moto.

Other differences aren't quite as important, IMO - the INC has a faster processor, but the Droid can, as of right now, be overclocked to match or exceed it. The INC has a better looking screen, but the Droid has gorilla glass and is much more durable (nobody will ever convince me that the INC has GG). Internal memory is larger on the INC, but with apps2sd that will become less of a factor, since they both use microSD.

And finally, since they both run Android, the apps are the same on both save for having SenseUI on the INC.

Your best bet is to go to the Verizon store and compare the Moto with the INC and see which physical style you like better and go from there.
