Link to page: iPhone 4 vs EVO 4G

So I was reading one of the comments and found it quite interesting:

"Evo doesn't even belong in the same poll with iPhone 4. They are superficially similar if, say, you look at the head-to-head comparison Wired did. But closer consideration shows a huge difference.

First is the build quality and level of engineering in the iPhone. Apple's design has had time to mature and HTC's hasn't. You have to consider the case integrity, component quality, etc. not just superficial form- factor.

Second, Apple is historically conservative on specs. If they say 7 hours talk time, you can expect 7 or more. When other manufacturers say 6 they mean most likely 4 and 6 if you are lucky.

Third, Apple's huge IP portfolio gives them an engineering advantage. For example, maybe HTC opted for an 8MP camera to make a marketing claim, but maybe the materials cost caused them to cut corners elsewhere. Apple tends to create balanced, pragmatic designs and use clever engineering to do more with less.

Finally, Apple has the industrial design thing down. Their products are unique, sexy and inviting to use. The Evo's design is derivative of every other plastic bar phone out there. You might as well compare a Mercedes (Apple) to a Toyota (HTC)... both fine cars, but not really comparable." by funakoshi.gichin.shotokan

What are your thoughts?

My man, while some of your claims are true, your on an Android forum! And if I was a moderator I would close this thread because your going to get SLAMMED from every direction. I happen to like Apple and its products, however there new OS is more of the old just meant to look new. And while they might win on build quality and having a true blue 5 mega pixel shooter, what good is any of it if the network is just plain Terrible. It's like having a Porsche, but with a tank of water instead of high octain gasoline.

The comparisons are going to get heated. But what I can say is this, Android is a fire breathing monster, and they are going to continue to just grow and get bigger everyday. The same with HTC, there phones are going to continue to improve with every outing. Sorry to bring the truth, but my EVO IS UNBELIEVABLE right now out of the box, and when Froyo gets released for the EVO, WOW is all I have to say!

the new iphone seems great but not too innovative...i actually use 4g regularly on my evo and iphone wont have it...id prefer a much bigger screen over a higher reolution smaller screen...better cam on evo...i do like the longer battery on apple....but again, androids os is so much better had has so much more potential to be a lot better....free tethering on evo too...

i think in the end of the day, the customizing and the screen size of the evo win me over...

I'm very strongly considering jumping off the EVO ship.

I spent months looking forward to this phone. MONTHS.

Typing on this thing is a nightmare. It cannot keep up with me. My iPhones and winmos and blackberry phones have always kept up, but both my phone and my wife's phone are not able to keep up with how fast i can type.. missing letters and such. I've been told by friends that have the moto droid that they've always had that problem and that "i should type slower/more carefully". Eff that.

Battery life is horrendous. I've done with and without a task killer, but the bottom line is I don't want to have to kill tasks, turn off GPS, BT, WIFI, 4G, or other things so that my phone will make it through the day. I'm not even doing that much. I haven't used the phone much today and the silly thing is down to 20%. On a busy day it would not survive.

I'm really depressed about the EVO. I was so hopeful for it and so excited to jumping away from Apple and the iPhone. Now it looks like I'll be going back to them. I just can't deal with the keyboard lag. I've tried other keyboards and no use. Wiped phone twice and no resolution.

Jump ship already. It looks like this is not the phone for you.

My thought is they are both the best phones on the market PERIOD. Each have there own nuances.

Overall it comes down to this:

-Apple has an easier to use phone that simply works and works well. You can't get advanced with it, but that's the price you pay for simplicity.

-Android has a much advanced UI and experience. You can customize and make it do a lot more, but it's not simple and you have to keep watch over it, but that's the price you pay to get a full featured phone.

people will still scream and shout "My phone is better" on both sides and guess what they are both right, because it's right for THEM.

Sorry to hear that. I'm coming from an iphone to and I type REALLY fast as well. I say give it some time. I'm still not typing to 100%, but I am getting better as the days progress, plus I feel the Android is a better predictor on the word completion. Give it another week or so then it you are still unimpressed switch over. You'll still have a great phone!

I do not understand all the polarization. I am on sprint and have a family plan and I like the evo. To change to att would cost us more money and I hate the att/apple restrictions, but the iphone is a great phone too for many things. In my area iphone gets good reception and is easy to use. I like playing with my phones so evo is fun for me and I am getting good battery life - I can go 24 hours or more on a charge (so much better than on my touch pro - which I admit is not saying much) and good reception on the evo. I really do not think one is accross the board better than the other phone based on preferences and needs.
