I'm looking to getting a new phone here, and I REALLY need help deciding between the Nexus One or the iPhone 4.

I have a few different features that really draw me to both phones but I CAN'T MAKE A DECISION!!! I feel like I'm siding a little more to the Nexus just because I love google so much :p

So here are my pros for each phone:

Nexus 1:
- AMAZING Google syncing features, everything appears to work seamlessly, well, hmm, maybe because its... THEIR PHONE!
- No limitations from Apple.. YAY!!!! That's actually quite a big plus!
- Froyo's new features, such as "create-a-hotspot"

iPhone 4:
- 720p recording camera
- Front-facing video camera
- Game Center (Apple's gaming network)
- A4 processor (which Google has SnapDragon, but this one seems like a boss!
- DISPLAY!!! This looks aMAZING!! (although Nexus has the AMOLED which doesn't seem too bad)

I'm forgetting some, I know, so if you have any please let me know! Sorry for all of the caps, I'm just so excited :p

So.. please tell me what you would recommend and why, highlighting the "make-or-break" features or if it's just an overall slaughter one way or the other. Although this is the Android Forums :D

Thanks!

I'm looking to getting a new phone here, and I REALLY need help deciding between the Nexus One or the iPhone 4.

Nexus One:
- $50/mo with contract free (unlimited data on T-mo)
- 3.7' screen
- Free turn by turn navigation
- Free text messaging by Google voice
- Android openness
- Emulators allowed
- Flash support
- REMOVABLE battery

Apple iPhone:
- $65/mo with 2 yr contract (only 2gb allowed per month)
- 3.5' screen
- No turn by turn navigation (since this would cost them money
- No Google voice (since this would cost them money)
- Closed monopolistic system that controls what their customers can do
- No emulators allowed
- No flash support
- No removable battery

I had a 3gs and learned my lesson. Never again will I touch an Apple product!

I would much rather have a company like Google behind my purchases that look out for me and bring me free toys that really help me out in my daily life (Google Maps Navigation, Google Voice, etc) instead of a controlling company like Apple that blocks these free services just so that they can make more money off of me. :(

Iphone 4G won't even be available for a long while it sounds like. 2012 possibly. Mainly because I don't think Apple is gonna roll it out until AT&T &/or Verizon get the 4G up and running.

If that's the case, there's gonna be way better Android phones out by then! *COUGH Dual Snap Dragon Processor* COUGH

Ask that question here and the N1 should win, ask on an iPhone forum and it should win. The screen looks really nice, but I would like to see it in person next to my N1. As for the front facing camera...I would have been much more impress if I could use it on 3G, but since it's only on wifi, I could care less, I could just boot up my comp and use my webcam. Apple has a lot better gaming apps, android is getting there but it's going to be a while.

Hardware is hardware, give a few months and I bet Motorola or HTC will come out with something that will crush the iPhone in specs (1.5 ghz processors are around the corner I think). I enjoy my N1 because it's running Android, I will enjoy my next phone because it will also run Android, get my point?

Ask yourself what you want to do with your phone, that should help you determine what is better for you.

Good luck in your choice, fun times to own gadgets.

LoL Are you serious?

iPhone 4 was announced today...
US gets it June 24
iOS4 comes out June 21st
Canada and others gets it July sometime.

I used to own an iPhone 3g, 3GS and went from BB to currently owning 3 Android Phones.

I watched the feeds from 1:00-3:00 today during WWDC and while there were a few things that amazed me, it still wasn't enough for me to go back to iPhone. There's still too much advantages to the Android Platform than the iPhone.

To sum it up, if you're a general user and like the ease of use, go with the iPhone. It's still an amazing phone and the A4 Processor and display is its best seller.

If you need variety, and tech savvy and like to tinker with your gadgets and make it yours, go with Android. One of its huge advantage over any iPhone is its ability to sync with Multiple PC\Mac to get .mp3 or .MP4s, without iTunes.

Don't base your decision on HD and all that jazz... There are quite a few HD-capable phones out ALREADY as well as the video calling. Only Android is already 3G\4G, capable where as iPhone says, it WILL BE capable but WiFi for now.

iPhone 4 ftw.... I feel the heat of the flames already! But that's my opinion after two N1's.

Why do you say that? What made you dislike the N1?

I concur, that is one of the main driving factors of my reasons for wanting to switch to the N1. I too have had all of the previous iPhones and I really just can't take it anymore !

Front facing camera works only with other iphone 4 users and only on wifi (too much bandwidth use for AT&T). Basically you will never use it.

Lols, I literally laughed out loud at that, and it's soo true :D

Thanks a lot for the posts guys! Any more would be appreciated too, but I'm leaning a lot more to N1 now, even more than before.

Still, I think with the N1, what makes me a little uneasy, is I'm not sure if Google's planning on releasing "N2" (tentative name obviously) any time soon. Also, are there any other good Android "super"-smart phones along the lines of the N1 and iPhone? I wouldn't be switching anytime soon so my main concerns now are:

1) A possible successor to N1 right after I buy it; yet, that's the game of electronics isn't it? :)
2) Another android superphone that may have better hardware than the N1

Ummm... Apple iPhone 4G does NOT mean 4G network... It means Fourth Generation...

for a company that gets credited with its elegant UI, i just don't get iphone's crappy notification system. who does popups anymore? even blackberry has a better system. maybe with ios5 they will finally catch up with the rest of the smartphone market.

also, having flash on the phone rocks. when it was first announced i didn't think it would be a big deal, but now that i have it i use it constantly. i can catch up with southpark episodes and watching youtube vids without launching the youtube app is refreshing. i also watched several matches of the french open on espn and nbc while at work, and am looking forward to world cup. flash really gives you access to the full web experience on the go.

I think CuE_32 said it best. This should be one of your main decision factor. For all Android phones, you'll need to play with various apps and setting to make the phone optimal for YOUR usage.

If you don't care about customizing your phone and want everything spoon fed to you, Apple is the way to go.

Also there are MORE Android phones for you to choose from, you have a HUGE selection versus Apple's...4 phones...

Um, aren't the Droid and the Evo, two different phones?

Yes and No...

The Droid is Verizon's branding of Android Phones. Included in its line up are the HTC Droid Eris, Motorola Droid and the HTC Droid Incredible.

The HTC EVO is offered through Sprint.

I have had an iPhone 3G. I now have an N1 and a 3rd G iPod Touch and I can tell you that I hate using the iPod Touch. Having to drop out of what I am doing to do something else or change a setting.

Android uses widget which lets you change settings, view what friends are doing look at your calendar etc etc all without the stupid run around that apple has you do to switch your Wi-Fi on or off etc.

Yes the new iPhone 4 has a few nice features, but for me it's still a characterless slab with a horrible OS.

I wouldn't blindly say that I will always run Android, but Apple certainly have not done enough for me to even want a look at their new device this time.

Oh and all this flim flam? Retina display, Facetime wtf!!! Rebranding a lot of pixels and video chat does not make it a new feature Mr Jobs!

I hate Apple's marketing...

As stated before ask here.. n1 ask on iphone forum.. iphone..

Ask anywhere else on the web "What is nexus one?" is the response.

I would still chose n1 personally. After playing with evo.. it is more than fast enough, so I'm not worried about that.. And I prefer the little green guy to the apple..

Google's n1 is still a valid contender imho..

Simply put. It is quite amazing how the one year old N1 holds up to this new Apple offering. I have no desire to switch. That said, I can understand why all current iphone owners are excited to upgrade. It makes their current phone feel/look very outdated.

My challenge @ the moment is to keep the wife in the N1/android bandwagon. (easier with docks and syncing and all that if we have one smart phone platform in da house). She's currently on an old nokia and looking to switch to her first real smart phone. So who here has a good not too techy reason for not going the iphone4 route?

Sorry but for a woman on her 1st Smartphone the iPhone's simple what you see is what you get is prob better for her. When my G/F uses my N1 its like she has lost the ability to think, 'how do I do this?' 'wheres the button for that'...... :D
