Just bought the Slide? Galaxy S may be incoming.

But for those who want to just talk in here... here is what I posted.

----

So this thing happening in June with the TMo stores opening early, yada yada... A Samsung rep who happens to be pretty high up the chain gave some subtle hints to return my Slide and wait patiently. When asked of a time frame, apparently August was too "cold", July was "getting warmer" and when asked about June, the response was "can't talk about that."

This is the same rep who showed the me a working, beautiful Galaxy S.

Do we return the Slide and at least wait a month to make an informed decision? I think so. Why settle for mid-range when you can get the best Android phone available?

And before the comments about Samsung's support starts (which I did to the rep), he made a very good point. Samsung hasn't had a flagship phone to date. The Galaxy S is confirmed to hit all 4 of the major US carriers, and reaffirmed that this will be the phone that gets all of the attention.

Anyone else have some good indicators of a big release this month? Regardless of what we've been told so far by the blogs.

Well according to everything I've seen, the price we'll most likely get in the US (at least to start) is $499, which means with a 2 yr contract, it will be about the same as the Slide. Apparently they have some 16GB version for $979 but I can't see that being true considering you can put an SD card in it.

I was a Behold2 owner as well and that was the only caution I had. But like I said, Samsung has never had a high end flagship phone. They're going to be releasing this phone across 100 countries, including the 4 major carriers here.

That's never been done by Samsung before. According to my source, this will be different because according to him, Samsung is completely changing the way things are done.

I have a feeling this phone will get updated regularly, and even if it doesn't, you'll still have the best Android phone on the market for a while to come.

I'm returning my Slide tomorrow and at least waiting until the end of the month.

Hey Spiz, I read back on your old posts and saw that you were able to get T-mobile to make you re-eligible for your upgrade after arguing about the Behold 2 (which I assume you used to get the Slide). I'm in the exact same situation as you. If we return our Slides within the buyer's remorse period, would we still get our eligibility back to use on the Galaxy S assuming it gets released this month?

I'm going to find that out tomorrow, but I believe so. The customer loyalty override should remain on the account until we actually use it. If not, they'll get to hear from me again. But I have a feeling it will be as if I never used it.

I got a HD2 at an authorized retailer, returned it and had to go through TMO (I went to a store) to use my override. It took a while to get it straight, but they took care of it no problem. If the Galaxy really is that good, I'm just going to eBay my mt3gs (which was basically free after selling my bh2) and buy it outright.

WORD IS GALAXY S IS NOT COMING TO TMO UNTIL END OF JULY! What we hear from leaks coming out from tmo put it as a July 21 release this has been reported for a while now and even reported again this morning by tmonews.com

Yes that was released on tmonews... however other sites are still considering the possibility of a June release to counter the iPhone release of June 24.

Either way, my Slide is going back today and I'm going to be stuck with the BH2 for just a little longer.

Francisco Jeronimo, research manager for European mobile devices at analyst firm IDC, said he was surprised at the device being promoted as an e-book reader, but overall his impression of the handset was positive.

"It is one of the best Android devices that will come to market this year. Samsung has developed its own look and feel, and the Galaxy S has everything to be an excellent smartphone device," he said.

"Samsung came to the smartphone market a bit late but has invested in all areas of the market, and could overtake Nokia to become the market leader (total market share) in western Europe later this year."

From CTIA:

Here at CTIA 2010 in Las Vegas, the big announcements have been few and far between so far -- but the ones we've heard about are blockbusters.

Take Samsung's new super-smart Android phone, the Samsung Galaxy S (also known as the GT-I9000) with Smart Life. This looks like a real contender for the title of "Best Smartphone in the World".

Even if this phone doesn't go beyond 2.2, the next Android update won't come for another year. I have no problems upgrading again if Samsung doesn't update. But I have a feeling (based on the rep I know) that things are changing at Samsung thanks to the uproar from the BH2 community.

your gonna return the slide to wait for another samsung product? ive been dealin the behold 2 piece of crap and lock ups , this 3g slide is awsome...im not basing my phone purchase on the galaxy s is gonna be the best smart phone in the world BS.... reviewers are full of it lately.... using the slide why would i need another phone...

Yes I am going to. Why? Because my sources have convinced me. I just returned my Slide today and will be going back to TMobile on June 29th to pick up my Galaxy S.

The Galaxy S will be nothing like any of their previous phones. And yes, it will be the best smartphone available. The hardware alone has already proven that. If you don't like Twiz3.0, it will probably be rooted soon after release, or you can use a home replacement. I have a feeling people will drool over this Twiz version though. I did... and I hated my BH2 Twiz2.0.
