YouTube HQ .apk from HTC EVO 4G

does this automatically stream the videos in HQ? cuz theres an option on the current Youtube .apk to watch vids in HQ... (well everytime you watch a vid you have to change it...)

Option to stream in HQ all the time.

Do you have to be rooted? Because it said not compatible with my phone when I tried to download it. I'm on v3 leak

I'm rooted, so I'm not sure.

My phone is not rooted, and this worked fine for me. I am on leak v3. I downloaded it directly to my phone and installed it with no problems. The biggest update seems to be the fact that you can select to watch videos in HQ as the default. Also, I originally thought that this would install a 2nd youtube app onto my phone, but it simply updated the original app.

Possible bug:

I signed into my Youtube account using this new app (never did it before this) and it took my account info just fine and took me straight to my youtube videos, etc.

About a minute later I got the Exclamation point in my notification bar telling me account failure. I enter my user name and password again but this time it doesn't take. Over and over just fails.

I finally just went and removed it from accounts and sync so it wouldnt keep popping up.

Anyone else see this?

Otherwise the app works f'kin AWESOME!

Haven't seen that yet. It does take FOREVER to load though (maybe it is my imagination but longer than before?). Need to try over wifi later and I am sure it will be much faster.

New app works great, except that stream HQ over 3G lags me out. Always has, regardless of .apk version. Everyone has that, right? Not just me?

Depends on your 3G connection more than anything. If you have a pretty poor signal, you are going to lag out.

Cool app, but I think I'm going to stick with the stock one. I like having high quality over wifi, but not 3G, since I don't always have a very good signal. I would rather opt in to high quality, only when I know I have a reliable connection.

Is this the exact same thing as the current Youtube app except it streams in HQ automatically?

It is the exact same app with these changes.

Since there seems to be some confusion about this .apk, i've made some screen shots below for you guys.

1. The android widget has been updated to show previews of videos instead of just a static widget saying "YOUTUBE" with a record and search button next to it. The video previews on the widget rotate through your subscription updates if you are signed into your Youtube account. If Not I believe it was rotating through the top video's of the day if I am not mistaken.

See Below:

2. Right after you install the .apk, it still plays low quality youtube video's by default. The difference is that you can now go to the settings of the app and choose that all video's play as High Quality by default (When Available as HQ).

The Good thing about this is that video's look great! The Bad thing is that it takes a little longer to play the video since it is a larger file (hence the higher quality). You can always reverse this choice by going into the settings and setting back to default.

See Below:

3. Now you can Toggle "HQ on" or HQ off" right on the player on the lower right hand corner. So depending on your 3G connection and buffer speed you can toggle HQ on the fly. This is the best feature since to do this with the stock Eris app, you have to do multiple clicks to set HQ on or off.

Hope this helps!!
