I've done everything here to maximize battery life, and even though san antonio is blanketed with 4g, I get no service on my phone. I can't pay the premium for 4g that I'm not getting, and playing with my phone more than 2 hours off the charger will kill it.

I really really really like the phone, but this is just unacceptable.

Back to the iPhone...

2 hours? That's unfortunate. My Evo lasts from 5am till I get home at 5pm, and still has enough battery to leave off the charger until I go to bed at 9.

Maybe you got a lemon.

The Evo no doubt has many capabilties but disabling/stopping one or more features that is the phone's selling points (wifi, gps, 4g, widgets... etc) is rather disappointing. Battery life as we all can agree to is lacking with the Evo.
I had gps, 4g, and wifi turned off, and still my phone dies very quickly.

Not to mention wtf is up with 4g? my clear usb modem for my laptop gets a great signal, the evo gets nothing.

I noticed that the phone's hardware might not be as well as we thought. My wifi signal on desktop, laptop and xbox 360 all showfull signal while my evo sits on a constant 2 bar signal. Haven't gotten a full signal yet and I'm sitting right next to the damn wifi router.

yup, my wifi signal sucks in my house and everything else gets great signal.

I think the wifi and 4g radios is the evo blow

I leave my wifi, bluetooth, and 4G off almost all the time.

I turn the bluetooth on when I get in the car. Wifi on when I'm at home or near a hotspot. And since DC's 4G isn't rolled out yet, no need for that either.

I've never seen a reason to leave wifi and bluetooth on all the time, especially when I'm not using them.

(No, my battery in the EVO doesn't last as long as the battery in my BB Tour did... but I also tend to play with my EVO a lot more.)

Probably doing something wrong. Took mine off the charger at 11am its 3:30 I got 75% battery left with calls browsing and some gaming. Searching for 4G will kill your battery even faster. I never search for it cause we dont have 4G. I'm lovin mine. Getting an iphone is a step backwards as far as technology. Good luck. The iphone just got homescreen wallpaper. That speeks for itself IMO.

Edit : also disable live wallpaper its a drain on the battery no matter how gorgeous it is.

I leave bluetooth on 100% of the time, and toggle wifi on and off at my house on my 3gs. Never had a battery issue like the evo.

Don't get me wrong, I love the freaking phone. But not getting 4g in a city that is covered with it and abysmal battery life is a deal killer for me.

You can leave your GPS on all the time. The only time the phone uses battery for it is when an app actually uses it (like google maps or navigation). You can tell if this is happening by seeing whether the 'GPS satellite' icon appears in your notification bar.

I think its going to take some weeks to acclimate the noobs to how this works.

Not getting 4G in a 4g city is reason for concern but it could just be your phone or maybe you done really have 4g. Sounds like you sit around searching for 4g all day. That will kill your battery fast. I'd cal Sprint an see if they will do something first. Maybe a discount or replacement.

I'm with you except no 4G here. I posted the same very poor battery life and got called every name in the book. At least people are nice to you so far. Best get your Nomex suit on just to be safe..

My battery life has sucked too. My Hero was awful at the beginning too. So bad that I had to go in and get a second battery that my Sprint store gave me for free. I just asked what they could do to help me and that I wasnt sure I could stay with the hero but I liked the phone and wanted to. They said the next phone that someone returned, they would save me the battery. I went in about a week later and they had one for me. So now I have three for my EVO.

I will say this, both batteries somehow got better as time went on. I also found that I worked in a school building and my phone was constantly searching for a signal when I was in certain rooms. Nobody got cell service in these rooms. I started having to put it in Airplane mode and then I didnt lose anything. A big problem for some could be something like this? Its not ideal but when I am teaching I cant use my phone anyway so it works for me. I would still tell all of you that if you really like the phone, give it a few more weeks, the batteries do tend to gain strength over the first month or so.
