Hey :)

I have just been on the apple site due to the big news of the iPhone 4. To be honest I wasnt expecting much thinking its just going to be the same as the normal iPhone.. How wrong I was! I am well and truely amazed!

I have had my fingers crossed for the GENUINE android update along with everyone else which seem to be forever but the iPhone4 seems to have everything and more than what my little Hero will have :( Apple seem to have well and truely spanked HTC and in my eyes said "Your move..!"

Im currently with Tmobile (uk) and I am seriously thinking of switching to the iPhone4 when it has been released! Now im not a iPhone fanboy as I passed on getting the 3GS as i knew the Hero would be better!

What do you guys think?

It's unfair to compare the Hero with the iPhone 4 in my opinion. If you're looking to compare a HTC or Android phone with the new iPhone I'd say it would have to be the Desire.

Comparing the latest technology from Apple with one of last year's phones from HTC is a little unfair, isn't it?! :D

Thats fair enough.. however, i only have the Hero.. not the desire! :(

Agree with Johnny - you can't compared the hero with the iPhone 4. The hero is older so will obviously not be able to compare specs wise.

Which phone is better? Well you'd have to say iPhone - but I love Android - and until my contract runs out I'm quite happy with my 'old' Hero :) (although it would be nice to have 2.1...)

You know this one sparked an emotion with me.
The end of 2008 I couldn't wait till my contract ended so I could get the "iPhone Killer"
I was proud of it and told my fellow coworkers that this phone is the ONE that will kick the iphone back to school, well its been a constant battle and the iPhone bunch have constantly been making fun of how slow my phone is and did it force close today yet.
Why can't we compare? I'm just a little upset I have had to resort to rooting to stay "partially" in the game with apple, I live in the Netherlands and there has been no word of any updates since the 1.5.
It was this phone that was supposed to be better than iPhone now why is it so odd to compare it with the iphone line?

I have had HTC for years, I'll of course update to the best HTC at that moment like I always do, I'm just a bit upset to see my "little Hero" (best phone on the market at the time) be left so far behind.

That said I absolutely LOVE Android & the Sensehero ROM on my Hero (aside from the few hiccups) and still think Android is King.

Buying a phone just because it's an iphone killer is a bit strange.

Iphone targets one audience and most android phones target another audience.

Most people I know with iphones are either smartphone novices or nerds who just want something that's simple and something that works.

Most people I know with android phones are nerdy, tech-savy people who understand and can handle the fact that their phone is complex (compared to both normal phones and iphones) and a bit nerdy.

Comparing iphones vs. android phones is like comparing a sportscar to a 4WD. If you want to drive fast, choose the sportscar, if you want to go all-terrain, choose the 4WD ;-)

I was thinking of getting an iphone in December 2009 (because of what I have seen about the phone) but the cost of the contract plus the phone was a lot at the time, so looked at a different sources and found the HTC Hero for cheaper contact can run multi apps and loved the Android (just as good as the iphone).

But now as I have heard from a lot of people that HTC have let them down with the updates (probably a letdown with the updates for the HTC Desire when a better phone HTC model comes out). I won

Haha you should just root it. I did it last night. I must admit that I was a little nervous, but now I'm running Villainrom 10 and loving it. And it's using a kernel that lets you clock the processor to 690mhz. Which is just enough to make the phone "snappy".

And this is coming from a guy that decided not to root, waiting months for the 2.1 update to come :p. I'm using a Telus HTC Hero on AT&T btw.

I bought the Hero because it was in my mind the best phone at the time and a HTC :D
I agree totally in the two different types of users, and what Android is all about. It's just hard to see the phone I so much wanted to compete with the iPhone not that long ago and now I read you can't even compare the hero with the iPhone 4, that was fast.

Technology moves fast. You really can't buy anything with the intent of staying on top of everyone else for long. You should just personally know how long a phone will last you in terms of your own needs.

Like personally I'd like a newer phone than my Hero, but I know that it's unnecessary, as the things I use it for, calling, texting, internet, email, occasional pictures and document editing, it's still quite capable.

And regardless, there are plenty of phones out already (not just the iphone 4 now) that outspec the Hero. Like the Nexus One for instance, that came out roughly 2-3 months after I spent 400 dollars on my Hero. Haha imagine how I felt then when I saw that it had twice the amount of ram, internal storage, and cpu speed as my poor little Hero.

It's more like an automatic Jetta (iPhone) vs a stick shift WRX (android). The Jetta is more common place, easier to use and more polished. The WRX is not as Grandma friendly, but much more capable and with a little bit of tuning can really fly. :)

Love this analogy :)

It's an unfair comparison, probably better to put the new iPhone up against something like the HTC Evo.

Even then it's different phones for different people. I had an iPhone for nearly 18 months and I'll never go back to Apple, not because I think they make bad phones it's just that I've moved on to a phone that's right for me.

You can be critical of HTC for their lack of update information but you cannot knock the Android OS, it is a huge leap forward in every way. I don't think I could go back to a phone that cannot be customised to suit my personal needs.

Well I dunno whether I phone is worth the money we pay.. but I can surely say my little white hero is worth every penny I paid... certainly I phone is not affordable by students like me.. and I phone 4 aaah I can't even imagine it...

If you are ready to pay more you can get new upgrades every six months... some how some one will come up with another upgrade and make your phone old one ;)

Mobiles, bikes and girls... one can never get satisfied with these 3, thr s always a betr one available... :D

I've had Hero for more than 3 months and I must say that it didn't address me.
I think that Qualcomm Snapdragon 528 MHz proc. is not strong enough anymore.

iPhone 4G has 1GHZ ARM proc. which is perfect for business and entertainment stuff.

Compare something with same procs ;) Maybe Samsung galaxy S and 4G iPhone is better for comparision.

I think that ARM processors are better for PDAs/Smartphones ...

DSHEP7what are you on about, how can you compare something that`s was released nearly 1 year ago with something that hasn`t even been released yet? and the update will come but if your that desperate spend the hour(less time than setting up a new phone contract selling your old phone etc etc) and root your phone.

How have apple spanked HTC?? maybe if HTC only designed 1 model of phone at a time and spent all their resources on that, maybe you would be more happy but personally I prefer a choice of models from my phone manufacturer not the phone they say I should want.

There is no such thing as Qualcomm Snapdragon at 528MHz. First Snapdragons were clocked at 1GHz. Hero has a MSM-family CPU, also from Qualcomm.

Both Qualcomm MSM7200 and Snapdragon are ARM processors as well...

As much as I love the Hero and Desire, I would get the iPhone 4 TBH. HTC really let me down in terms of updates and the iPhone seems to have better features.

Lol, this is what jobs is very good at, making people think his devices are superior with no reasoning behind it. I bet my argument as to why the desire is better will beat any argument you can put forward attempting to explain why the iphone 4 is better!
