One thing i have noticed since i have made the jump to 2.2 is that apps keep restarting back up. I use Advanced Task Killer, and before i could open it up kill all my designated tasks after a reboot, and they would stay dead until they i restarted them again. But since the jump to 2.2 i kill all me designated apps, and 20 or 30 mins later, they are back up an running again. what gives? Is a better task killer needed?

I have noticed this myself. I don't mind the apps running, I just have the ATK to see what is going on, just getting info. I do kill apps all the time, and like you, they restart on their own, without me rebooting.

Not sure why the other guys would bash than help. Forums always are like that though. Post count = hero status I suppose.

No one is bashing. We just have a good understanding of how things work. We understand that there is no need at all to have a task killer.

The guy asked a simple question. Instead of the answer, replies were "How about no task killer is needed.... " , "qft... i don't even notice shit running and it opens faster. It reminds me a lot of a desktop linux box :D" , "ftw! " , and "+3 ".

No one helped. He just wanted to know if another task killer would work better or not. That was it. I know, in everyone's eyes here, I am a "noob", but who cares about post counts. I prefer to read, and learn by trial and error. But c'mon, if someone asks for help, you'd think someone would help them out. It could be possible that he doesn't have the understanding, yet the replies came and assumed he did.

I switched over to Advanced Task Cleaner Pro til ATK is fixed for froyo. If you want to stick with atk you can also use the running tab in the apps screen of settings to kill it afterward (I think this is froyos native task manager but imo it could be better) Don't care what anyone says about not needing a task killer thats BS because my phone is noticeably slower when the memory is low (usually less than 40-30mb) and butter smooth once I free it up (with all my apps I'm usually around 80mb free). If you don't mind the battery drain and the phone stopping the apps you want to run because it doesn't have the memory available its your phone but I'll keep using them as long as they keep delivering the results im looking for (smoother performance), thanks.

I've been on this forum long enough to know that the other poster's comments were said to be playful. Cause, despite bamaredwingsfan really bad taste when it comes to college football :D he's a nice guy and we're all here to help. Trust me when I say that I don't see a lot of glorified "heroes" on here...despite your perceptions about thread count. Here, the higher the thread counts usually are attributed to how much time and discouragement they have saved other users when helping them with their problems.

Is a task killer needed?...no. Do I see the same thing that bamaredwingsfan is seeing with Froyo?...yes. I DO use a task killer cause it serves more functions than just simply killing apps for the sake of "speeding things up".

Check out "SystemPanelLite Task Manager" in the market...I've been using it since it was in early beta. I don't know if the $2.99 version is that great (I just now saw that it's out of the beta phase), but the free version is nice. But some apps will still appear after you close them out...that's Froyo...not the task manager.

The main reason i was asking about the task killer is mainly what William T Riker said.

Seems like my phone gets laggy when the memory drops into the low 30's in MB. I hit the task killer and i get back to mid 60's and it seems like i can tell a difference in performance. Didn't mean to cause a tea party LOL

You know, I've noticed the same thing as well. I sometimes use ATK to kill apps but mostly I just want to see whats running. Sometimes, there was stuff that I hadn't even opened running and that just seemed like a memory hog to me.
Thats exactally what i was thinking. I would notice things running that i had only downloaded, and not even opened yet!

I've always been a fan of the Advanced Task Killer, and realized that after upgrading my phone to CM 6.0.0-DS-RC1 (which obviously uses Froyo) that this doesn't quite work anymore. It kills any running apps but won't kill itself when I'm done using it. Anyone else having issues using this app on their Froyo phones?

UPDATE...

I wrote the developer stating to them my problem, and they responded within THREE minutes that an updated version will be coming out soon that resolves my problem. Sweet!
