No froyo till Dec (rumor)

So who us actually responsible for creating froyo, google?

Google just creates the OS. They give some basic specs and standards but they are only required for certain things like a license to use the market. Otherwise, they create the OS and make it available for manufacturers like HTC and carriers like Sprint to customize it and make it work with their unique bits of hardware and the specific features of their network.

Typically this is why generic "vanilla" Android devices get the ports first. Dev phones and standard phones like the N1 tend to get them first since they are the basic hardware the OS is meant to work with. Other devices like Evo may need additional tweaking to support things like Wimax or two cameras. Carrier support means making sure it plays nice on the network, manages connections properly, and runs any software the carrier likes to bundle with the phone.

Those manufacturer/carrier customizations are what makes official releases take longer.

Eh, whatever. I bought this phone as-is. It is working great as far as I am concerned. When they get things worked out and tested properly I will update. Until then I am cool with 2.1. If I really care I will install a third party ROM but they don't always support all hardware properly. If Sprint or HTC rushes this official ROM update, then you will end up with an equally buggy ROM. My advice is to enjoy your new phone and then when the updates come out, enjoy it even more.
