Contact Phone Number Format for Eris

I just got my Eris 2 weeks ago. It is my first smartphone. I put in all my contacts manually so that I could get the feel of the phone and learn the basics. On all my previous stupid phones, the contact phone number automatically formated to 901-555-1212. With the Eris it is 9015551212. Anyway to change this?

I have searched other threads with the same question but no one ever replies. I have search the net with no luck. Should I just take it that there is no way to automatically change this. I have gone through and put in the extra ticks between the numbers manually but that is a pain in the arse.

Please do not let this be one of the previous threads that just sits with no responses. Or if there are threads with my answer, please direct me oh wise ones!!!

I'm used to it since my old phones never used hyphens in their phone numbers. Probably because adding hyphens to written numbers seem to be a practice unique to North America and both of those were international GSM phones.

Funny, I was just thinking about this same thing earlier today. No phone I've ever owned has run the numbers together like that.

You can modify your contacts in your Google Account to add the "-". Some of my contacts have this (a legacy contact import with dashes), some dont. I suppose a standard format would be nice, but at least this way you can go with either format (or both) depending on the entry in your Google Account.

How do you do this? Is it an option you can choose? Maybe I'm just being slow tonight, but I don't see any option like this at all in my Google Account. Do I just manually add hyphens to each number? (that sounds painful )

yep, a painful manual-add.

the phone format 6305551212 is a real pain - if I get an email message to my Droid in that format, it doesn't know it's a phone number, so can't be clicked for an easy callback.
AT&T's unified messaging sends me an email with the notification, and another with the wav file...which is not working at the moment without another app.
I've trained people to leave just enough voicemail to send the alert to my phone, and then I call back when I can. Would be much easier to just tap the number and have it dial.
Contacts Clean Up is good, but it doesn't clean up numbers in messages, does it?

They call them smart phone, yet the most basic function: making or receiving call are not even displayed properly.

I own a "htc one s" phone and alls I received are 2223334444 instead of (222) 333-4444

I wonder why 1phone was able to do this basic function properly and HTC cannot? Maybe that's why apple has the market...

It has everything to do with HTC sense. My Samsung Galaxy Nexus does it. For some reason HTC chose not to implement this. Probably for the reason I mentioned in my post earlier 3 years ago.
