Anyone else using Exchange ActiveSync (As items arrive)?

Hello all,
Is anyone using Exchange ActiveSync with "As items arrive" enabled?

I had it set this way yesterday and my battery was completely dead in 4 hours (with minimal use). Now, i have it set to check "Every 10 minutes" and my battery is at 60% after 7 hours of heavy use!! Incredible!

I am using Exchange 2003 (hosted provider) and I've NEVER had a device do this. The devices always seem to last longer with "as items arrive" set - since it isn't syncing regardless every 10 minutes.

Any thoughts/comments?

I don't think this is unique to the EVO. At work we had several people with iPhones syncing to our Exchange server using push and their batteries were dead by lunch as well.

I had my Palm Pre set to "As items arrive" and it would last two days. Every other phone i had was the same way. In fact, i was told that with Exchange ActiveSync it is better to have it set to "as items arrive" vs. "Every 10 minutes".

I'm using EAS w/ Exchange 2010 hosted solution set to "As items arrive" and have been getting just fine battery life.

I've always experienced better battery life w/ "As Items Arrive" w/ my WinMo devices too.

I called HTC this afternoon.. You'll like this. They said: "The Evo was designed to sync every single second. Even though the Incredible doesn't do this (i told them my brothers HTC Incredible didn't do this) the Evo does."

In other words, the HTC Evo was designed to work with EAS unlike any other phone.. And that 3 hours of battery life is normal! Whatever!!

I have my EAS set to "as items arrive" but I don't get notification when items arrive (i.e. the email icon on my home screen does not update to reflect the new messages). It only updates if I actually open email.

Of course I would prefer to know that I've received new email without actually opening the email app. Any suggestions for something to tweek?

As an update, HTC asked me to try removing the Exchange Account and re-loading it.
I did so, and this fixed the problem. It seems the email was stuck in a continuous sync pattern.

Now email is set to "As items arrive", my phone has been off the charger for 5 hours and my battery is at 70%!! Working perfect now!

Anyone else that is getting 3-4 hours of use - something is definitely wrong.

I always leave it on "as items arrive". That way it only "syncs" when a message is coming in. In a typical day I will get an email maybe once every hour. Sometimes more, sometimes less. It stands to reason that accessing the Exchange server once an hour is less draining than once every 10 minutes.

CHECK YOUR GOOGLE SYNC!

If you look in your sync settings, you'll see that there is no option to set this to sync on a schedule and it appears that the contacts on my phone were updating pretty much continually. I stopped the contact syncing, rebooted the phone and now my 3G is greyed out most of the time. I sure hope this is the final solution.

I am experiencing the same issue with my Exchange 2007 server. I'm an IT admin with a BES server and just recently turned on activesync for use with the Iphones and Sprint EVO.

It seems it will check every few minutes, but it's not as responsive as activesync for the iphone. When a message comes in on the iphone / ipads, they update within 5-10 seconds. The EVO can take up to 5-6 minutes and seems to refresh quickly only if I go into the mail application.

I definitely have it set to 'as items arrive'.

This seems to be a bug in this particular OS on the EVO. Even the older Motorola Droid sync's pretty much in real time compared to what I am experiencing with the EVO.

Any others running into a similar situation?
