I'm loving my evo, but had a few questions that maybe other folks are running into. Any help is appreciated.

1. Anyone seeing a really weak wi-fi signal? I can be sitting next to my router and still don't get full strength. Just trying to see if I have defective set.

2. Anyone have problems with FM tuner? I tried it in my office building today and nothing. I tried it at home and got a few stations, but weak in general.

3. Anyone hear from monoprice on whether they are getting the micro HDMI cables? I don't see them in their inventory. Is it type D?

4. Any feedback on video recording? I recorded my daughter playing tonight in kitchen and I gotta say the results were not very good. Maybe I just have too high expectations compared to my hd camcorder. The pictures in the other hand have been great (outside).

5. While on a call, should I be able to simulateosly browse the internet? I tried this and got an error message that I was not connected. I enabled wifi and it let me. However, I thought this would work on network.

Thanks!

The wifi indicator is extremely conservative. Actual wifi usage should not be poor.

FM radios in small portable devices generally have terrible reception due to a lack of a powered antenna/better antenna.

Type D Micro HDMI is correct, and no mention of Monoprice carrying them yet. They are extremely hard to find, especially now, after the places that did have them sold all their stock.

Low-light conditions are difficult for cameraphones of any sort. They have very small CCDs with which to capture light, and thus must heavily process what they do capture to make a visible picture/video. It's not a replacement for a regular camcorder.

You can only use data when on a call if you are on a 4G network or Wifi. 3G and calling are not compatible.

My signal has been fine - the indicator on screen isn't the best...well, indicator. What speeds were you getting? Get the speedtest.net app in the market and give it a go.

Signal isn't great, but it's fine. You need headphones plugged in (I guess I don't think it launches without them?). Outside is your best bet for it.

They'll get them eventually...it'll take time. It's a brand new cable. Patience, grasshopper.

Recording is pretty decent...keep in mind, it's not a dedicated HD recorder, like your camcorder - or hell, even a Flip HD. It's pretty good though...but I wouldn't make a movie using it. Well, maybe every once in a while... ;)

Only in a 4G area, or with WiFi on. This is a CDMA (Verizon, Sprint) limitation.

Thanks!

you guys are awesome! thanks for the quick responses, makes me feel better about the phone.

I'm really pumped, I can't complain about the battery life since I know I can't put the thing down more than 5 minutes and try to do something else on it.

Now I really need to get myself a case and screen protector so I can quit babying it around. I have it in a sunglasses cloth case. haha!

5 minutes? I'm barely able to leave it alone while I'm sleeping! If I'm awake, it's always on (so far, until the OMGWTFBBQ IT'S SO FAST stage wears off) and I'm always messing with it.

Now I really need to get myself a case and screen protector so I can quit babying it around. I have it in a sunglasses cloth case.

The case, go to bestbuy and get one of the premium ones. If you NEED a beltclip, get the more expensive one with the belt clip, but other wise I'd stay away from it. The screen, a protector would be nice, but you don't need to worry about it like a mad man right out. It's got the same coating crap on it that the Hero had, which makes it VERY scratch resistant (I was taking my keys to try it and rubbing it across the screen *kind of really hard, lol*, the that is Hero, to see, and it worked! No scratches!). But for the longer-term look at it, having one is good.
