Really disappointed with this phone

After having a krzr for 2 years, I should've known better to buy another Motorola product but something drew me back in.

The biggest design flaw for me is the physical keyboard. Its constantly opening in my pocket. On top of that, it needs a case on it to keep the keyboard somewhat tight. But, when the case is on, I cannot use the touch screen for typing when the phone is charging. I don't know why but all the words just double tap and add a period after everything. Should NOT have a problem like that.

The Android OS I think is, well...shitty. Apps and messaging are constantly force closing, which causes phone freezing and deleting of all my texts at least once a week. The phone has also taken a liking to shutting itself off randomly too as of late. The app market has nothing really worth my time either like iTunes does. Facebook is just a disaster that lacks several features and always goes down. I absolutely hate the touch screen too, after using an iPod touch for so long its like downgrading to shitty multitouch that can never get the word or letter that you want to type.
The phone is probably one of the worst problems. No one can hear me! I have to repeat everything several times til they get something I say. Its funny because most of the people I talk to have iPhones...and they come through crystal clear and they have good call quality with others on their phones. so why can't the droid I paid $250 do that too?

I really wanted to like android, I did, but it just has too many problems and poor build. I wanted to try rooting, but don't know how. I feel like thats just another mess in itself. If anyone could possibly help me with that too maybe I'd like the phone more after. But for now, I'm praying for a Verizon iPhone release later this summer

Opens in your pocket? I keep mine naked in my pocket and I have never had this issue. Is the slider really loose? Mine has a bit of resistance.

The other problems you are having are ones I have never encountered - as many here will also testify. Sounds like you got a bum unit. It happens. I'd suggest trying to get your unit exchanged before you completely write off Android. Problems with your one phone are not representative of problems with every device running Android.

Until android can have a pretty solid, simple OS that doesn't require rooting and hacking to reach full potential, I'm writing it off.

Is yours new? Refurbished? I also don't have any of the problems you listed and I think you got a lemon. I agree with you that the Facebook app lacks features, but that's all I agree on.

Also you mentioned in another thread that you thought the Droid screen looked "like shit" lol. I'd like to know your reasoning behind this statement.

No offense, but it sounds like you really don't want to give it another shot - and that is your prerogative. I am not gonna tell you to go try it again - ultimately, it is your choice. And neither should any of these other people.

I will say that the success stories of the DROID far outnumber the horror stories like you're describing. More than likely it is your phone, and I will further say that to judge the Market and the OS based upon your experiences with the phone that you have, while seemingly a valid conclusion, is actually far from the truth, and is a subjective only analysis.

Again, though, it is your choice - good luck with your next phone(s).

I haven't had an issue with my phone. Well not major issues.

I would take my chances with a refurb rather than keeping a phone that you know is faulty. However, I think you pretty much made up your mind since based on your past posts, you have had nothing but trouble.

LOL. The same as an LG Voyager? The Droid has over four times the resolution of that screen. I'm sorry that your hardware is obviously faulty but I really think you are letting your disappointment over not getting an iphone cloud your judgement. At least get a Droid that works properly before you trash talk it.

Froyo won't fix a loose keyboard. If I were you I'd go back to Verizon to see if you can get an exchange. How long have you had the phone?

If the keyboard problems are caused by momentary lag, the JIT compiling in 2.2 could help. Otherwise the keyboard is the same. Have you tried using the HTC IME keyboard?

As many others have already said, you should talk to Verizon and get a new phone. Yea there are some horror stories about the referb Droids, but if you think about it, that is only a very small, single digit percentage of all the Droid users.

As said before, it's ultimately up to you as to what you do. This is simply my suggestion. As I have not experienced any of your issues, I would have to say that it sounds like you have a defective phone. That happens from time to time. Every product in the world has a certain percentage of defects. If you find a product that no one has ever had a defect with, please let me know. I will definitely invest in that company. However, that is not going to happen.

In fact, a coworker just bought an iPhone about a month ago. He had some major defects straight out of the box. His battery would completely drain in less than 2 hours (even if he wasn't even using it and had the screen turned off). His volume button would not register when he tried to turn the volume on his phone down. And finally, His phone would lock up completely when he opened his phone app. He took it back to AT&T and got a new iPhone. That iPhone has no problems (other than the fact that it is completely locked down and barely customizable )

I tell you this because I want to let you know that even the "holy grail" iPhone has defects.

Not very helpful. If his phone is malfunctioning in the ways he's describing he does have reason to be upset with it.

That's not very helpful. He obviously has a defective phone. Just because he would rather have an iPhone doesn't mean that he doesn't know how to use a Droid. I do agree with nstallion in that his judgement may be clouded by his desire for an iPhone. But that is not a reason to flame or bash him. Hopefully he takes his phone back and gets a new one. Then he will be able to enjoy this wonderful phone and get to see what the Android OS is capable of.

I agree but this guy doesn't really seem to give a damn. He's unhappy with his phone and assumes that refurbs are pieces of garbage because he's read that other people have problems with them (apparently he doesn't know that some people in this world cannot be pleased.) His droid is screwed up, he doesn't want to get it fixed and just wants to come here and complain.

i bought the same time you did.

but my screen didn't work. like.... literally the touch screen didnt work.

and mine opens in my pocket all the time if its not in a case, i understand OP to the tee.


did you get rechilds task killer? run that every few hours and kill everything, its stops the crashing. my phone.droid.app was crashing... wouldn't make calls. killing the background crap fixed that.

I do like the android OS... think i'm going to bounce to an EVO though

OP, you are entitled to dislike the Droid but just because you got a defective phone does not bely the fact that the Android OS is arguably the best phone OS and the Droid is one of the best smartphones on the market (better than the iPhone in my opinion and many many others).

I've had the same Droid since the beginning of December 2009 and my experience has been virtually perfect. The Droid is the best thing I have ever purchased in my life and it has changed my life for the better.

To the OP, I'm sorry that you got a lemon but crying about the situation for months hasn't helped you so why continue with the complaining? Instead, take action, call Verizon, raise hell with them, and make sure they get the situation rectified. Be mature about the situation.

The OP doesn't necessarily have a bad attitude. He's venting, and jumping down their throat about it is not going to solve anything, and makes everybody doing it look like a rabid Android fanboy.

The the OP, have you considered that you might just have a bad phone? QC is done in batches at most factories, and it's possible that you have a hardware defect. It's not unknown.

Having come from an iPhone and then a Pre, I can tell you, it's possible that you need to do a factory reset on the phone (in settings). I have certainly had instances where an OS install didn't take the way it was supposed to, through legitimate, Apple and Palm approved means. It is very possible, given all of the force closes you are talking about, that the OS was not properly installed from the get-go. I would suggest trying that, and seeing what happens from there.

As far as the phone sucking, I honestly can't see this, unless you are not primarily a user of Google Services. Even unrooted, this is an awesome phone, at least to me.

I would honestly try a system wipe and restore.

I have three Droids (one for me, the wife, the mother-in-law), and they are all working flawlessly. Two of them are rooted, one is running stock 2.1.
