Downloading of updates won't start - how do I reset?

I'm using an HTC Desire, but have hit a problem. When I try and download updates to apps, they all hang on 'starting download'.

I built up quite a queue before I noticed, cancelled all, and tried them one at a time, no joy.

It doesn't seem to matter if I am using wifi or not...

I also tried killing all tasks, and powering off and on again.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can try to reset this, or fix it? I'm all out of clues!

Thanks,
Nick

Thanks for the suggestions - it still won't download progs or updates, even when wifi connected.

I checked there was some space on the SD card, deleted some music to make sure, no difference.

It can download things other than apps - the Guardian newspaper downloads work fine for example, and the twitter and emial update properly.

The only other odd thing I noticed was that it notified me of 15 updates available - but when I went to the market / downloads, they were not showing as updates... Seems wrong...

Anyone got anything else I can try, a more drastic reset perhaps?

Thanks,
Nick

Start Google Talk, and see if that resets it.

Yeah, it sounds weird, but some people have had success with it.

You are right - it does sound wierd! But I have noticed some error messages about failing to log into Google Talk, (which i ignored as i don't use it).

Today I managed to upgrade the main OS on the Desire, and even that didn't change things!

Ah well, many thanks for your continuing help and suggestions!

I was not previously set up on Google Talk... I did this via my desktop PC, and it works just fine. I cleared all the parameters and app data i could find, I even managed to upgrade android around it, but it still just sits there with the progress dial spinning, unable to log in to Talk.

I don't seem to have the option to uninstall it, so is there anything else anyone can suggest to get Talk going?

OK, for the benefit of other forum users, I finally got it going. (I took a break to think about it first!)

I decided to concentrate on Google Talk, and trying to get that working. In the end I acheived this by the unlikely method of going into google email, (directly on the web, not via the phone), and changing my account back from a "gmail" address to a "googlemail" address. (This is under account options). Google have been nagging UK users to switch to gmail for some time, not sure if there are similar issues in other parts of the world.

After doing this, (just to be sure) I cleared the cache for 'talk' under application settings, rebooted the phone, and it worked just fine. Downloads started to flow, everything as expected.

I'm very disappointed that Google let such a bug through - and after the fix, I saw they were still nagging me to switch to the address that doesn't work.

If anyone else is having the problem, and I have not been clear, feel free to get in touch.
