Does sprint charge an activation fee for upgrade?

It sometimes depends on how long your a Sprint customer as well. I have been with sprint for a couple of years and when I order a phone I have my activation fee and shipping fee waived. You have to ask or pretty much tell them that your a premier customer and that you want those two fee's waved. Hope this helps.

That all depends upon store and who you talk to. I have returned phones before and haven't been charged re stocking but I have also returned phones and have been charged. If you return and buy a different phone they most of the time just ignore the restocking fee.

Yeah, I guess the person you get matters in any case.

A new phone isn't really an option for me because if I end up returning the EVO w/in 30 days, I will go back to the old phone I have (Touch Pro) and waiting it out until my contract expires.

If you go to return it and they charge a restocking fee, just sell it on ebay and you will get all your money back if not more. People are buying them up like hot cakes. I was tempted to sell mine but just love the little guy too much

:p Doesn't work if I want to go back to my old contract. I have to return the phones to be able to cancel the new two year contract so I can live out the last couple of months on my old one with my old phone.

Man these phone companies love getting people in contracts. I guess that the nature of the business. If I may ask why are you considering returning the phone. Are you trying to switch carriers.

Yes, if the Evo doesn't work for me and my wife, we're going to cave and go the iPhone route. She's wanted it for a while, and I've always managed to keep her at bay, but the Touch Pro has been atrocious for us from a usable "phone" perspective (Winmo 6.1 blew past the lowest of my lowest expectations), and I convinced her to wait and wait until the Evo came out.

Best Buy didnt charge me an activation fee in the store. So unless it comes on the bill after hte upgrade, i didnt get one.

I also got mine at Best Buy. I was looking at the screen as the rep was going through the process and there was an $18 activation fee, it is going to be billed. I plan on either calling or using chat to see if I can get it waived.

I ordered two EVO's online and was given a $50 credit on each line to stay with Sprint for two more years. It didn't make sense to me since the phone upgrades already required another two year commitment. The Rep said the two year extension would start from the date of her $50 credit and when the new phones are subsequently billed, the two year period would carry on from that date. After confirming I wasn't going to locked in for 4 years - I said heck yeah with a $100 credit. :)
