I downloaded this app earlier today and my phone has been running slow every since. I checked to see what has been using all my memory and was surprised to see the TV Guide app running. I closed it and my phone ran great again. Checked the battery usage to see it used almost 5% of my battery!! The one problem? I NEVER EVEN USED IT YET!!

Anyone else have a similar issue with this app on the Droid?

I did not download this app because the reviews on it were mostly bad. Lots of lag and FC's, inaccurate TV listings, massive battery draining, and other various bugs that cause system instability are just a few of the reviews that I read. If they ever fix any of these problems, I might give it a try, but until then, I'll just stick with what I have.

I use TV Listings for Android: TV Listings for Android - Android app on AppBrain and have no problems with it. Yes, the layout could be a little better and the ads are slightly intrusive, but it works just fine and is about 99.9% accurate with the listings.

That's mainly the exact problems I had. I don't understand why a TV Guide apps needs to run itself 24/7 and use so much memory.

Oh well, back to TV Listings! Which is a shame because I liked some of the features TV Guide had, like favorite shows.

That is one thing I don't like about TV Listings. If you want to set favorites, you have to pay them for the add on. Then if you want to get rid of the ads, you have to pay them even more. I think they should have just put both together and charged less.

Oh well, I guess I could just look at it like donating to the dev to try to make the app better. I have not payed for those options yet and am still debating if I even want to.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to let you know that the latest update of 'TV Listings for Android' includes fav channels free of charge. We have dropped the pay per feature model and now have only one paid app which removes the ads (currently on offer $0.99).

The new version also contains 3 days of listings, improved notifications and more data about movies and sports events.

Check it out and let me know if you have any questions or feedback.

Cheers,

TV Guide should have just paid you to put their name on your app, it's like 100x's better.

So, is this a completely new version of TV Listings for Android? I have not been prompted for an update to the TV Listings for Android that I have installed. The version I had before, TV Guide USA (or something like that), was removed from the market and this one was added. I was never notified that this happened and therefore was unable to enjoy the overhauled UI and additional features. So, if you removed TV Listings for Android and added a new one, please let us know. Otherwise, you may want to check to find out why I haven't been prompted to update.

Kratos:
Our old application, TV-Guide USA, was actually suspended from the Android Market because Google got a letter from the lawyers of TVGuide about our similar app name. We got zero time to prepare and were basically just told afterwards about what had happened, so we could not notify any of our users. Otherwise we would have just posted an update with the new name.

The only advantage of the paid app is the lack of ads.

Tomas, Thank you for answering my question. That stinks that you basically had no time to prepare or inform any of your users. I now understand why I never received any updates. I like TV Listings for Android better anyways. The overhauled UI is much, much better.

One more question if you don't mind. I was trying to find where the Favorites section of the app was, but couldn't find it. Can you please tell me where to find this feature.

Thanks,

Kratos

I just installed the paid version of the app and got it set up with my favorite channels. What is the "Filter" button for? I doesn't do anything when I touch it.

Another question....it's Tuesday evening. If I do the "Date & Time" thing and set it to Wednesday at prime time, all the listings come in just fine. However, if I set it to Thursday at prime time, not all the channels show up....some do....some don't. If I set it for Friday, I get nothing. Is this normal behavior for this app?

I've been using PocketTV with the TV Grid List overlay on a Palm device for many years. The listings are provided through a subscription service for $20 per year from SchedulesDirect.org. I update the listings each week on Saturday. It downloads 2 weeks of listings in a searchable database. It has been my favorite app on the Palm devices for years. I retired my Palm Treo 755p(from phone use) last week and got a Droid. I'm going to still keep the Treo by my chair and use it just in Palm PDA mode with the updated listings on it. I was hoping that an equavilent program might be available for the Android devices. It doesn't look like anyone's going to develop such an app.

TV Listings for Android is a good app....unquestionably the best TV listings app for Androids. Thanks for continuing to improve your product. I will remain a loyal fan.
