Htc sense vs Android 2.1

First off let me start off by saying I am a proud owner of the HTC evo and I think the iPhone sucks, not that it has anything to do with this thread but I just wanted to out that out th
ere. So I have been reading a few blogs and they don't like the sense UI too much on the evo. And that evo is the last phone we should by with a custom rom. Updates to the newer versions will take longer because they have fix all the bugs. Well this may be but I don't have a problem with waiting I love the sense UI its fast, fun and is beautiful.

A few blog post are saying its slow and that it Makes the phone lags. They are saying Android 2.1 is better and 2.2 will blow it out the waters. To me 2.1 is super slow on the evo comparing to sense...well what do you think sense or android 2.1, I haven't talked about 2.2 because its not out yet, well officially

you said 2.1 is super slow on the evo compared to sense? sense is not an OS its just an overlay htc adds to customize android. sense needs 2.1 to work. and 2.1 with sense is not faster than plain 2.1 thats just silly. 2.1 uses less system resources, so it's slightly snappier. i dont mind sense, but i think once froyo comes out ill want pure android.

Sense > froyo

/thread.

Android OS is not as refined as iOS...Sense adds a lot.

i like the sence UI but i would love to have to option of switching back and forth it sucks that they completely took that option away

No they didn't. menu->settings->Applications->Manage applications->if on 2.2, click the 'all' tab->find and select current launcher->click 'Clear defaults'->press the home key, you will be prompted to choose a new launcher, always test it before you check the default box.

Are you saying that we can turn off the sense UI and use straight froyo? I would be interested in learning more, i checked my manage apps but i dont have anything in there called "Current Launcher"

That's exactly what I'm saying. I have yet to use sense on my Evo. I prefer LauncherPro. It is much more customizable and a heck of a lot leaner.

You will not find an app named 'current launcher', I was just referencing the active launcher, in your case it would be com.htc.sense. You should have a vanilla launcher available, and if you did it right, you should get this screen when you press the home key.

I dont have a "com.htc.sense" but there is a one in there that says "htc sense" and it has a clear defaults. I pushed it and nothing happened, the box grayed out and it says no defaults...?

I may have figured out why i didnt see that window. I installed the Launcherpro app and hit the home button and it came up, near as i can tell from research HTC took away the vanilla launcher?

Off topic, how do you modify launcher pro? for example, your icons dont look like the ones that came up when i loaded mine, i can find the settings and i dont know much about different launchers (obviously)

And I am rooted running a custom ROM, so the launcher options may not be the same.

long press on the icons, you will be able to change them. to get the settings hit menu->preferences

I was hoping for the vanilla, but i am liking the launcherpro. i found the settings and preferences last night but didnt know about the icons. Reading the peek at your screen thread i see that people are downloading icon packs from the market, is there anything i should know before i try hat also? Regardless i think i will play around with Launcherpro some more.

I can't tell you much about the icon packs, I have never tried them, but good luck :)

launcherpro looks good and i have it but you have to pay for it. Am really ticked that htc completely took away the option to have standard vanilla. I like to have options and to pick and choose one when i get tired of looking at one particular "launcher". Htc must think the sence UI is the greatest thing, which its not its good but it's by no means the best UI. Now am really considering getting rid of my evo and picking up the vibrant from samsung or moto x.
