Not to bust bubbles, but it is still nowhere near ready for a rom and will function funky- to the point that you are better off with the current official rom.

Until a bug free and fully functional Froyo is available, what is the point?

1. Already have Flash, and 10.1 of Froyo still does not have GPU acceleration.
2. We already have plenty of app space (748mb)
3. We can tether with an app
4. The device is fast now, what are split seconds going to add to it?
5. added: A rom taken from another device will have to be mapped to support the internal flash allocations. If not, the 748/6.6gb of flash allocation will not be seen and then the 512mb rom comes into play to load everything. Apps2sd on the sd card is a much weaker option than the current flash allocation.

Point is any Froyo roms that crop up will have more problems than would ever offset the gains. That all said, a clean and bug free release would be a good thing- if it happens.

HTC and VZW went out of their way for this device not to be rooted. EVO dodged the "rooting" bullet since it was already designed back when the HD2 was being developed. Sprint wants the lock-down too.

Just getting rid of City ID is not enough ;)

as excited as i am, i'm going to give it some time as well. i don't need it to be perfect, i just want more than just root. shoot me if you must, but i like my sense ui, and after 2 weeks finally got it roughly how i want it to be, i'm not gonna go restoring now and have to do it all over! my wife already thinks i spend too much time with my phone :D

last time i tried to root my eris, i only got it rooted halfway with no recovery partition and couldn't back up to fix my mistake. so this time, now that i see how clear the eris directions are now, i'm waiting until the instructions are damn near perfect... set in stone, even!

but congrats to you guys who did this! awesome job! there are a lot of excited nerds this morning!

If people are excited because they think everything is done and ready to go, then yes, your trepidation is justified. However, I think many of us are excited because this is a very significant primary step to getting to a bug-free Froyo rom for our Dincs. We're just excited because progress is no longer stagnant.

Rooting is always good for an option, but the internal flash allocation makes it more complicated. A stock Froyo means the 8gb is useless and all of that fast flash memory goes to waste for apps.

I can see many a non tech screwing their device up messing with this stuff. Incredible is a tad more complex unless the emmc memory is mapped similar to what it is now.

BTW, I prefer USB tether, since these sized devices run too toasty for this function- IMO

Hooray! I'm excited to get back into the custom ROMs again like I did with WM.

Quick question that's OT... Earlier it was mentioned that you can use SetCPU to underclock your CPU when the screen is off. According to the app SystemPanel (great app to find those app battery hogs!), our CPU already underclocks itself when its not being used (albeit not as low, ~250mHz). Anyone have any comments on this?
