My phone is crapcakes. It's the dumbest of the dumb-phones (and was bought for that reason, I'm an all or nothing type), and the LCD screen is completly broke, so I can only recieve calls and call the two people I have on speed-dial and anyone who's phone number I know off the top of my head. I've been itching for android, but I have hesitations on the T-mobile G1.
I can afford one, but I'm stingy (scottish genes) so I'm hesitant to buy anything rashly, unless its under 5 dollars, and even then...
So I've been doing my research. I wants Android. The G1 is good enough for me (so far the problems I've heard with it aren't that big a deal to me, I like that it doesn't look snazzy, I'd have to watch my fingers to text anyway (had to do this on my old POS-phone, wont mind doing it still), and so on. I have faith that most of the issues will be fixed with firmware updates, but I have some questions before I buy, hopefully someone here can help.
T-mobile is my biggest concern.
I don't live in a big city, so I wont have 3g, but I have edge in my area. Is 3g really a make/break loss? Can I still browse the web with it?
T-mobile seems to have a pretty sparse network, I currently use Verizon, who seems much better in that respect. I'd be more comfortable using Sprint than T-mobile, but I don't want to wait too long (see crapcake phone above), especially if sprint is going to cripple android as I've hear rumors. Anyone with more experience with sprint or paying attention to sprint or verizon have any thoughts here?
I also had a couple minor questions:
What about the chin? is it a huge impediment to typing?
The camera, I've heard it cannot do video, is that something that can be changed by an app or upgrade, or limited because of hardware?
Sorry for all the questions, thanks in advance for the help.
