Does this update help with corruption issues and slow sdcard issues? All my pictures and my videos stop working, corrupt etc.

I'm about to throw this pos phone into the wall.

I keep removing the memory card and formatting it, it last a few hours then my crap stopped working again.

It's not just media. Like one minute Installer can see my apk files, the next it sees none and crashes. It's all related to the memory card I'm finding.

I didn't want to do the update for fear of loosing root but I simply can't use the phone. Once I get stuff installed to the phones memory, its fine.

Hell, I'm even having issues with Astro. I try to load stuff or view stuff threw that ON the sd card and it crashs and or lags. Pictures blank, songs wont play, gives me some unsupported file crap for mp3's. Then a few minutes later they work, then they don't.

Everything keeps coming back to the memory card having issues working right.

If I take it out and format or scan disk it in my pc, it shows a-OK though.

Just took out the mem card and put it back in, cycled the phone and all seemed well until I tried to view pictures.

Half of my pictures are just white. If I click on them, they display full screen though.

Also my video's show as black blank boxes, but they seem to play when I click on them.

In 10 minutes I bet they don't though.

From what I have read the update does fix the card issue however it will not allow your phone to be rooted.

Thats where I'm getting confused. Bunch of the people in the Toast and Unrevoked sections are saying roots fine with the update installed. Others say no.

I was seriously going to return the phone when I found out I lost tethering but since I've installed Easy Tether and got wireless working via root, I decided to stick with it a bit longer. If I loose, root, I might just return it.

My old Samsung Instinct has worked as a modem for years fine with no BS.

I've been a Sprint customer for 10 years, my wife's been a Verizon customer for 8. I was half tempted to get the Incredible on a family plan with her but I wanted to try this EVO first and it's pissing me off.

So how do I get the update? I can't figure out how to make it pop up. Turning off the phone, removing the card, checking for firmware and htc updates all come back with nothing.

I guess I thought formatting the memory card did the same thing as the update but I guess not?

Mine rooted fine with the update installed. You know the solution you just don't want to do it. Oh wait, after I rooted it took me back to .1 and then it would never let me update back up to the .6, but I think the patch was still applied which is probably why the sd card problems didn't come back. Before the update I was having close to the same problems and also sense kept crashing and restarting.
There is a new rom with the .6 already cooked into it. Try that one.
Don't take this the wrong way, I'm only asking, but why did you root? Rooting is not for the impatient, seriously, especially this early in the game. Things are still being tested and worked out. But for now if you want to keep root then update the rom to the one with .6 in it, if you can't find it I'll help you look. Good Luck

Don't take this the wrong way, I'm only asking, but why did you root?

So I could use the wireless tethering app that requires Super User. I actually just did the Unrevoked super user access, not toasts semi-full root.

Anyhoo, I can't figure out how to get the update. I know it's not installed. I was there at 5am when the Sprint guy opened the phone and I told him NOT to do any updates, didnt, hell he never even messed with the phone, he let me do it all and I keep saying no/cancel to the updates.

Now I can't figure out how to GET it.

Go to settings >system updates> and try and update all four.
The unrEVOked definately works with update as I have mine with S/U.
Goodluck

+1 I updated before I rooted because I wanted my phone to work. The way I figured it, if I couldn't root at least my phone would function proplerly until a new root method was found to get around the update. Sure enough I didn't have to wait... as soon as I did the OTA update, I installed unrEVOked and I'm rockin SU access with no SD card issues! :D

Yeppers, installed the update, still rocking SU access.

Going to Toast the thing tonight though. I installed Unrevoked before everyone knew it wasn't true root, I want to dump all the crap Sprint apps etc. Was my whole reason for wanting root.

That said, some of my pictures still show as blank (no thumbnails) unless I click them but hey.

I say throw the POS phone into the wall as you like. The Evo has poor build quality written all over it. From the dust trapped between the glass and the edged bevel as well as a shoddy ear pierce. Light leakage too? Oh my. Just go get a different phone. HTC obviously did not do a good job on the Evo. Released too early with many flaws. Battery life? What battery life? And this is coming from someone who came from a BB storm.

Nothing more then flashing the OTA. Probably going to Toast it tonight.

Right right! :D

Only problem there is that I wouldnt get my $210 dollars back. I'm considering returning it. Even if I worked out the issue I was having I have other complaints. The $10 dollars, the fact they want to rape me $30 on the tethering, the fact the phone feels cheap and the battery life SUCKS ASS. I mean the battery lifes ok if you dont use the phone but I mean what the hell.

I've been a Sprint customer for 10+ years. When I called them they basically told me to piss off. Apprently the S|P (Sprint Premier) on my account means jack. My wifes been with Verizon for 8+ years, might be time we just combine. Well actually, she has 3 phones on her account now including one Android but to add me, a 4th, would still be way cheaper then what I'm paying Sprint.

Haven't decided yet. I got someone from Dan @ Sprint blowing up my phone today. I sent them a nasty email and he just keeps trying to call me. Called twice yesterday and 3 times today but I missed the calls. Going to see what he has to say before I decide. Not expecting much though.

If I return the phone, I'll take it back with no ROM! I don't know, it just stopped working! :D
