Well the issues with the stock launcher have been fixed from the early days of 2.0.1... and everyone can have up to 7 screens without root...

Now that 2.2 is out and the launchers work fantastic on it, i think app developers should start working on a new Gallery for the droid.. I cant stand the stock gallery, its glitchy, laggy, messes up all the time and doesnt show all my photos... Its a worthless piece of trash IMO. I cant even show friends my photos i took on my DSLR on the phone because it will never load them..

Anyone else agree?

I have no idea what you are talking about. My gallery is responsive and all of my pictures are there. On 2.2, even the "pinch to show photos" works (though not perfectly, it does what it meant to)...

Please provide more information on your problems...

The only problem I have with the current gallery is that it doesn't zoom properly. When you zoom in on an image it simply enlarges the temporary image it made when it fit it to the full screen. Zooming in doesn't actually show you the proper resolution of the image. Pretty crappy if you want to examine a small portion of a high resolution image.

Does your friend have a Canon? My Nikon DSLR pictures load fine.:p
My gallery doesn't mess up all the time. But it does take a while to reload sometimes. I wouldn't say its worthless, but I do wish the performance was improved. It looks pretty though. Cooliris is tight.

2.2 fixes that. At least its clearer. Don't know if its the best it can be. But noticeable improvement.

Are you sure? I don't notice any difference in the way it renders pictures when you zoom. Still just makes the pixels of the full screen version bigger.

Not a Gallery feature but the .nomedia approach works well.

I use that to keep the book covers from Bookworm from showing up in my gallery.. but it is such a hack method and not one you want to use if you want to be able to look at said "private" images as then you have to delete/remove/move/remake that .nomedia file.

No, that function needs to be integrated via a password on a directory. simple.

Wow I guess me and my girlfriend are the only ones with the issues. My issues are a lot lol.. even on 2.2

When I rotate photos they never stay rotated, and sometimes ill hit the rotate button and it does nothing
Half my photos never load up (yes its a canon :p, and they are jpeg)
It constantly freezes on me, and sometimes the pics stay blurry
.nomedia hides all photos on my sdcard

I've had this on all versions and roms.... guess the gallery doesn't like me.

I think it still does that, but it is much better. I take pictures of my schedule and PowerPoint stuff in class, and its clear when I zoom in in the camera app but super fuzzy in the gallery, 2.2 gallery it is much more readable.

So I at least figure out this one... Connected my EVO to my PC. In the Root folder of the SD card, I created a folder 'PICTURES' and then in there created all my folders and put in copies of all the pics I wanted from my PC.

Unplugged, opened Gallery - BOOM - folders!!!

yeah, if you read my post, I have folders. I use Astro to make them. And I don't have "copies" I use Astro to "move" the originals into the folder of choice.

BUT, you cannot do it natively in Gallery.. that kinda sucks as being able to organize photos from within a gallery app is a no brainier... but we cannot. Heck, I was able to do this from within the gallery app on my rudimentary Palm device.

1. secure images or a directory from prying eyers ;)

In the folder you want to hide pics/vids in, just make a new file in it called ".nomedia" (notice the "." before media) and it will be exempt from the Gallery.

Aside from that, my gallery works perfectly. It even seems to zoom in properly to me without blowing it up and looking crappy. I just tested it out with pics I took with my home camera that are synced through Picasa.
