Okay. I have 2 EVOs. My wife works in a hospital and has been complaining that her phone sucks. Calls, texts, and emails all come in fine, but the ringer of the phone does not go off. I first thought she had somehow turned it off since shes not familiar with using smartphones. She got home and all the settings were correct but the ringers wouldnt work until i did a power cycle......I thought maybe it was the phone.....

Just to be sure, we switched EVOs. Mine has been problem free and I use it heavily. Well, now she is having the same problem with my EVO while hers is running perfect........Tech support has no clue what the problem is and neither do I.......The only thing I can think of is some machine must be interfering with the EVO......she works in a lab at the hospital and most of her coworkers have sprint and have no problems at work......They can stream Pandora all day with little interruption. Her 3g service is bad and the ringers dont come on.....I can understand the signal being weak if there is interference but no one can figure out why the ringtones dont work. They work for a while when she gets there, but they go out during the day......Her phone has the stock ringtones and mine has custom ringtones off the SD card......I really dont want to exchange it for a different model but her coworkers with blackberries and HEROs work fine while the EVOs dont........Coverage in the area is excellent.....

Very strange and frustrating......

If you have not yet done a Master Reset on that handset I would suggest you try it. It will wipe the phone of everything and put it back to factory settings

This is crazy.....both phones work perfectly fine away from her work. At her work, they go completely bonkers......She has my phone now which I have used almost every waking minute since getting it.....Worked perfectly.....She takes it to work at it goes completely haywire......I told her to do a power cycle and the phone wont turn back on....

I feel like i'm in the twilight zone....

Sorry to hear that... that sounds like a very idiosyncratic problem and those tend to be frustrating!

Have you tried putting the phone in vibrate mode without ringers and checking if it works? I can't think of a logical reason why it would, but just to eliminate all possibilities that might help you narrow down the source of the problem. Maybe that will spark some sort of idea...

You know, I had the same problem on monday.... I was so excited to play with my new EVO phone that I starter to install programs to play with... one of them was Pandora... It was working fine until it stopped playing and then it gave me a force close error... at the time I didn't think much of it as I moved on playing with other programs/games... well I didn't notice that anything was wrong with my phone until I was missing calls and text due to no ringer volume... I had to reboot my phone in order to make it work/ring again.. this might not be your problem but just maybe it could be :) good luck bud!

Yeah yeah, at first i thought it was her too....she doesnt go into the settings and mess with anything.....thats why i checked it when she got home and all the settings were correct.....the ringtones and internet didnt start working correctly until i did a power cycle.....Once it came back on, everything worked perfect......

I'm wondering if its possible for a machine to be sending out a frequency that throws the EVO off somehow and powering the phone off/on somehow resets that signal......

Im going to say that is quite possible. Ive been going in and out of a hospital all week with my mom being in there from knee surgery.

It wasnt til yesterday that something in there was making the EVO act strange. Im guessing, if anything, there is a chip in there, possibly with the WiMax radio that is completely throwing the phone off.

We all need to start realizing, EVO is not just a basic phone....its pretty much a small computer in our hands.

I would keep doing tests though, maybe an app or a setting is screwing the phones up.
