Google Nexus One or Samsung Galaxy S?

Hey guys, new to the Android community. I purchased a Nexus One which turned out to be used.. but luckily, the seller accepts refunds. Had the phone for one day and it was a great phone. The OS was intuitive and I liked how easily the phone synced to Google products. However while typing a text, I kept hitting the "back" button by accident.

I'm planning on repurchasing the Nexus One from the official site. The problem is I don't know if I should wait to see if the Samsung Galaxy S will come to T-Mobile. Supposedly it will since leaked images of the

-Why the OS looks so much more different compared to Vanilla Android OS?

Because it is a different flavor, just like how HTC has the SenseUI. Looks like a wannabe iPhone IMO. Samsung probably just put their own mod on it.

-What are your thoughts about continued support for the phone after release date.. in terms of future Android support/updates? I know it won't be as fast as the Nexus One receiving updates.

Custom mods of Android are always more of a PITA to upgrade. It will be slow, I would bet, depends on how much Samsung (in this case) cares.

-Possible LED Flash for T-Mobile? since phone specs are said to be Carrier preference.

If the hardware isn't there, then no.

I will say the Samsung Galaxy S looks to have an amazing screen AMOLED at 4", but that is where it stops for me. The custom GUI over core Android, the non standard buttons at the bottom, I trust Samsung software updates about as far as I can throw my car, and the big one: the case.

That glossy plastic has to be one of my biggest pet peeves on phones and laptops, you can't even look at it without it looking terrible from finger prints.

Get the N1, with Froyo 2.2 almost here you're golden.

The screen is amazing and is going to be easily better than the iPhone 4's screen. Camera should really have a flash. If the camera had a flash and it was stock android 2.2 (so it was easier to update) I would prefer it to my nexus one.

The specs of the phone looks pretty impressive. The UI not so much and I am going to have to agree with Ryjabo that it looks way too much like an iPhone. And talking about updates and Samsung, I am really not impressed with the way Samsung threw their Behold 2 customers to the curb with 2.0:

Might be an older phone but it tells you about how Samsung may treat your later on.

Since you had a chance to play with the Nexus then you know what it's all about. You might want to wait until the Galaxy come out and get some hands on time with it before making your decision.

With all the phones currently out on the market there is only one phone I would purchase over my N1 and thats the Microsoft Kin 1, other then that it's the N1 over the Evo, DInc, Droid, etc.... Sexy Nexy One all the way!

Thanks for the advice guys. I agree that it looks just like the iPhone and I'm not a big fan of the user interface as well as the all-around plastic. I also heard about the complaint about follow-up for the Behold.

I like how the Nexus One is the best phone in the game today contract free. So if my perfect phone comes out I can trade my N1 in easily (Thank you Google & T-mobile!).

BUT, I try not to waste too much money purchasing new toys and paying ETF's every 6 mo just because a phone manufacturer came out with some new features...

I can't imagine I'd do this with my car purchases (even if I was a rich yuppie) so I don't think I'll be trading in my N1 anytime soon either**

** - This excludes a phone purchase that I think is the "perfect" phone for me. The EVO is VERY close to that perfect point for me but has a couple of flaws (HTC Sense killing my wiimote gaming + No 4g in SoCal) that make it easy to love the freedom and domination my Nexus One gives me.

I personally haven't. My phone stays in it's supplied pouch and has a screen protector and it is in excellent shape.

I don't think I'd go that far. The Super AMOLED screen that Samsung is using here is still an 800x480 resolution panel. The real benefit of Super AMOLED is that it is more visible under direct sunlight. Regular AMOLED washes out badly in sunlight. If Samsung can really fix this it would fix the main problem with AMOLED.

The screen will look great no doubt, but it won't magically have the DPI of a screen with a noticeably higher resolution and smaller size. Overall, I'd prefer a more vivid, larger screen even if it isn't quite as crisp as the iPhone 4.

Had a look at the Galaxy S in the shop a couple of days ago.

Didn't see it in action but my initial thoughts were plasticky case compared to the Nexus.

My concern over the phone would be Samsung's willingness to support it with ongoing updates.....the problem with the Behold II (other than being a bit crap to start with) is that it was not a big seller & so therefore, it does not make financial sense for Samsung to keep working on the UI development to make it compatible with later versions of Android.

I am speaking out of experience here. I just sold my i8910 "samsungs flagship phone" Ye fooking right!!

I will never buy another Samsung phone as long as i live. You only have to go onto the i8910 forums and see people flaming Samsung and their dire support and lack of care for their mobile devices.....

That's what Samsung claims...3-5% lol. If it's a Pentile Amoled than it's more like 40%. 800x480 pentile screen is not trully WVGA...it's a lot less in fact.

HTC closed this loop hole down - you can't disable Sense, only run a home screen replacement.

Yes. I had a Samsung Galaxy and their support was very very very poor. I'll never buy any Samsung phone. They are not trusted people.

It was enabled about 3 days ago to mainland Europe and Canada.

Don't touch Samsung Android phones! Take a look on here at the i7500 Galaxy forum. No Firmware released for this phone as ever worked correctly & with every release (only a few) something else was broken. They are still stuck on 1.6 & Samsung have said that they are no longer supporting the fone. Discrace.
