Root Why do you want ROOT???

Why have you been waiting for ROOT? Is it just for the shear POWER and FREEDOM, or do you have plans to take your phone where no phone has gone before?

Right now, the only (well, the big) reason I want ROOT is to get Handsfree BT Voice Dialing.

Tell me your thoughts - This could be both an interesting and educational thread!

Thanks,
Jon

i honestly don't see the purpose in rooting, for myself at least

I would "almost" agree with you on this... unless I find some good reasons here - thats why I started this thread.

I come from a WM phone where EVERYTHING was locked down, I don't seem to see that with the Android - yet.

I just don't know if I want to wait as long as it's going to take HTC & Verizon to give me my Handsfree Voice Dial - boy do I miss that!!!

The one main reason I want root is to have no 'Sense' and to have the HTC keyboard installed on stock Froyo. I love this phone to death, but I'd prefer to have a stock phone rather than this counterpart. I wish it was as easy to turn 'Sense' off on here as it is on the EVO.

x2

I want just stock Android. 2.2 would be nice, but if not yet, that's ok too. Stock 2.1 will work for me.

I want 720p recording and the LED flashlight. I used the flash light on my old Omnia almost weekly. It proved to be very helpful. I mainly want the 720p to shut up my stupid Apple fanboy friends who no matter what the product is will buy it because it is apple. Showing them that my DI can do just about everything the new iphone 4 can do minus the walled garden would be great. They are in a state of denial that there are better products in the world besides Apple products.

I think I would do it if there was a noticeable battery gain. I don't see why/how it would help your battery life though.

Considering the incredible is my first smartphone, I have no reason to root. I don't understand why you would want to get rid of sense. heck, I really don't even know what sense is. I just know my phone has it.

Yes please elaborate .... I'm guessing you down-clocked the CPU, but what to and what was your battery life?

Is there a reason to down clock the cpu? It was my understanding that the incredible down clocked the cpu on its own based on current need. As in, its not always running 1ghz... Dont you change the clock speed to raise it above the upper limit?

BT Voice dialing + proper BT 2.1 interface support are going to be great. If that means ditching Sense I have no problem with that. Having a rooted device also means Verizon can't lock out features they don't want you to have (Tethering for one)
