Help Anyone return an Evo because the bottom screen is separating

Luck i guess

I called in afternoon and they had said they didnt get their next shipment for the 2nd wave for pre-orders yet

I called after work to see and they said they got their shipment and they had one held for me.. so they must of gotten enough to fill preorders + a few

So i zipped on over

They still had like no accessories just a crappy silicon body glove was hoping for an innocase but nope :(

It was funny when I called sprint to get my replacement, she was checking to see if they had any and she started to say we don't have any, and then said "wait we have 500 in stock" I was like wow thats not very many.

I have still not been able to find an accessory in store since before launch, sucks ass I tell ya.

Funny thing is the screws have noting to do with the screen, I tightened mine and am still able to pull the screen up just like I was before.
I really don't think a screw is going to have anything to do with glass.

Yeah, I tried that a while back and that didn't seem to work for me. The light leakage is pretty significant on mine, even with the body glove from Sprint on, it's pretty noticeable unless in a well-lit room, but every night I notice it and it reminds me of the problem =/.

I can't believe Sprint and HTC would let such a big problem escape their attention, they've been developing this phone for like 2 years? This is supposed to be their flagship phone as well.

This doesn't seem to be an isolated incident either, from what I've read at different forums and all, I would estimate this affects at least 50% of EVO owners, if not more.

I think the majority just haven't realized it yet, because although it may seem like a minor issue now, it could lead to bigger problems in the not-so distant future.

I got a question for whomever may know, but would an issue like this be covered by the 1 year manufacturer's insurance? It's obviously strictly a hardware issue with the phone and not user-created, so I would think so.

What I may do is get a replacement phone, and if I notice that has any issues, I will just grit my teeth, and keep it for a few weeks/months until I read accounts of the issue being fixed by other members (if it does get fixed...)

Talk about a buzzkill...I really don't want to defect to another phone but I can't truly enjoy this device until the problem is fixed.

It seems to happen with so many devices. Heck, a senior executive from RIM took SERIOUS flack (rightly so, IMHO) for basically saying consumers should (paraphrased) expect faulty, glitchy devices when they are new.

Well I hope he expects us to not buy their products...

But with that said I'm trying to think of how I can state this issue without looking insane or wayyy too anal. It's too small an issue to be easily spotted unless I let her push down the side on my device that has a lot of give....yeah that should work. I'll have to work my appeal to hopefully get a EVO tomorrow, regardless of pre-orders. I was the first pre-order in that store! I deserve some assistance. This really bites :(

And because my mind is set on exchanging this EVO I need to do this now. I can't stop thinking about it every time I see my phone.

Which is why I never bought another BB, much less the Storm, which he was specifically talking about.

I don't think it is anal at all. You purchased a high-end device. I think you are allowed to demand quality.

Hrm.. I don't have light leakage 'yet' but the bottom portion of the screen I can def. 'push' down on it a little and there's some give there...

Is this the first sign of the problem people ar ehaving? or is that just how they are?

i have the innocase on top of it so maybe that's why i don't notice the problem as much?

Yes that is the first sign of it. I took mine into radio shack today and the manager said his was starting to do it, but an employees phone and the demo was not.

I mean it really is an issue now! Every time I grab my phone even in the Best Buy Platnium case I always tilt the phone just to see the slight imbalance and it just irks me. I am not an fanboy of any particular device (which is why I've had just about every major non-BB smartphone since 2008) but I've never had this issue with my Palm Pre (can you believe that!?), my iPhone 3G and 3GS OR my Moto Droid.

My launch 360 is still running smooth. My launch HTC EVO is dying

I suggest you take your Innocase off (or don't and live in bliss ) and look at your phone at an angle to see how the glass sits inside the "casing". Does one side seem a little more higher than the other? Forget the give so much as the actual imbalance. If not, then throw your Innocase and NEVER check it again. :D

well.. i took case off and looked at angle. the glass is pretty evenly sitting across entire bottom, but it's not sitting super flush with the casing. it's defnitely elevated a little (hence why it has some give when I push i guess)

i also took a look in the dark and saw the tiniest sliver of light coming from under the right 'search' button =|

i'm thinking i'm just gunna put the case back on and hope for the best

i bought my online from sprint's website.. and have no idea how/what their replacement policy works

While I'm not returning mine because of the light leakage, I do have it. It's annoying, but I have far bigger issues with the device than that.

For example, lousy 4G reception - and my other 4G device works BEAUTIFULLY in the same places, so I do have a basis for comparison, and the hotspot is just too damn slow, latent and full of packet loss to be usable.

I will be curious to hear (in a week or so) from people either exchanging from the second batch or buying a phone from the second batch. I am very skeptical that this issue is only occurring on a handful of devices, but we will see. If it weren't for my doubts, I'd be exchanging too, even though my leak is relatively minor.

Keep us posted.
