so my droid incredible began to slow down && i had to figure out what was making my phone so slow.. come to find out.. it was Handcent SMS -- the text messaging app i had been using ever since i bought the phone.. i updated it the last time it notified me of an update && then it stopped working... always force closing.. so i had to use chomp SMS instead.. but i hate chomp -- handcent is ten times better.. i tried reinstalling handcent on my phone but i couldnt even find it in the android market so i was assumed the maker removed it from the store.. do any of you know of any other text messaging apps that are really good for the droid incredible? or do you know of any way that i could possibly put handcent SMS back on my phone?

Any problems with the SMS Popup app?

The only issue i have had so far is if you use the popup window to reply it sometimes goes to the wrong person. I think people have had this issue with handcent as well

One nice thing is that you can change the button layout so I removed the Reply button and replaced it with a button that reads out the text for you. It

A slow down of OS is usually a corrupt App, conflicting Apps, or Memory. Handcent works great for me and others, so i'm guessing it's something on your phone/system. Keep your phone lean and mean... installing a ton of useless Apps only bogs down the phone.

If you use an App, its great, but clean up your phone, your Incredible starts out with the speed of a PUNT RETURNER, but the more Apps you feed it... the more it starts turning into a TACKLE.

Thats the greatness of Apps, the installing and uninstalling of Apps with ease. I just downloaded Dolphin HD and uninstalled SKYFIRE. I just don't need both, so i uninstalled SKYFIRE, not saying it's a bad App, but i don't need it taking up memory.

I was going to install Popup SMS but it seems like it requires a lot from your phone, including the ability to not allow the phone to sleep. Is there a way around this? I don't want an app killing my battery quicker than it should be dying off.

Also I agree with DroidPower, keep your phone lean and mean. I have less than 10 apps and that is fine for me.

Any problems with the SMS Popup app?

I've been using it and the one problem I have is, there's a setting that allows u to "mark as read" when pressing the "close" button on the popup. This, however, doesnt' work. The new message stays in the status bar and so does the number of unread messages on the "messaging" icon.

This may seem like a simple thing for some but it annoys the crap out of me.

Does this happen to anyone else??

I tried Handcent when I first got my phone back in April but uninstalled due to lag and bugginess. I tried Chomp, too, but that one irritated me for some reason I don't remember right now. So, I just went back to stock.

Fastforward to last week. I'm about ready to go insane thanks to a certain slideshow feature. If I ever find the designer of that little gem... Yeah, so anyway, I figured I'll go ahead and try Handcent again. Now, I love it. It's been through a few updates that may have helped but I think the big thing is that I now pretty much know my phone inside out. When I first got my Incredible, there was a bit of a learning curve. I had come over from Blackberry so the OS, hardware, and market were all a bit of a trip.

I do find myself going back and retrying apps every now and then. The big one is System Panel Lite. I can't believe I ever managed without it but I so didn't understand it when I first tried it! LOL
