There is a difference between stuff that was sourced from film, 23.98fps and video such as on TV 30fps. Sounds like you were watching dvdrips from video sourced material and not film. If the source is 23.98fps then playing it at 29fps doesn't make it better.

Don't know just used avicheck to see which frame rates the movies (excluding .mkv) :D i have are at, so far all are around 30fps. Thanks gabbott for the Clearification

I run Home Run battle 3d and it looks laggy, especially on the slow-mo home run bats... lol

Oh, that's supposed to be slow-mo? Ok, I couldn't really tell what was going on there...yeah, that part is a slide show. Funny, cuz the rest of the game feels very smooth to me. I don't play a lot of games though....just grabbed that to see if I could I could tell.

how does that suck?

we've been watching movies at 24fps for how many years now??

You obviously don't know what you're talking about. One is film, one is a video game.

I'm sick and tired of people accepting faults and making up excuses for the phones they own. Demand a fix and maybe the phone manufacturer wont walk all over you. Sheesh!

EDIT:

After reading the XDA forums, it looks like HTC did a similar thing with the Tilt. This is pretty irritating. I don't understand why HTC continues this problem with their flagship phone. If they want to be competitive, they need to be at the top of their game.

This makes no sense, since same chipset as Desire and Inc. The games some here state that play smooth also play smooth on a 528mhz G1, so that is not a lot of assurance. Obvious driver issue, but why, since the other snap devices should have same problem?

Inc does not and Desire also is not affected. Strange.

Added:

Could it have something to do with display compatibility? Seems doubtful, but why just the EVO?

"Beer", it's what's for dinner.

I think it is cool that you folks can make light of the fact that the G1 when clocked at 528mhz is just as fast as the EVO for games. You are some forgiving folks :)

Edit: Not sure what happened here, since the intent was to joke, since common sense is the snapdragon will kick the 7201's butt (in G1)- cap or not. Sorry for poor wording.

I think the issue may be due to the display and issue beyond 30fps. Just my hunch, since same chipset as the Inc and Desire. Neither have the cap, but then again, it could be a lack of drivers, if the display tech requires different ones and HTC perhaps did not optimize for it.

I frankly would be pi55ed myself, if the Inc had the issue. Too much money to pay for a gimped device.

This issue might also explain why high res video output with decent bitrates to an external display is a compressed mess. Looks good on the 4.3" though.

You act as if it's the end of the world. It's a firmware limitation which can be easily unlocked. It's not like your running the 528mhz processor in the G1 which can barely be overclocked.

Matter of a fact when you unlock it and you see the Snapdragon literally shoot your FPS to near 100fps and your battery goes bye bye in like 10 mins you might actually appreciate the limitation. You do realize that was done on purpose don't you?

If it is limited, that does limit games. Movies are different, they are perfectly smooth at lower FPS. Games however can benefit from higher FPS and can look slow, choppy etc at lower frame rates. Graphics such as video games are not equal to live footage, such as TV and movies.

Either way however it is still a cell phone, so 30 FPS IMO is still very respectable even for gaming considering the screen size and resolution. It may imply be a hardware limitation based on the GPU and as mentioned to conserve battery power.

Two major reasons for fps limitation:

1) Overheating, you aren't running the pixel sized processors in your granny's flip phone anymore, the Snapdragon gets HOT very HOT very quickly.

2) Battery life, don't expect a 3d app to run at full 1Ghz and not easily get 80-100fps, but that's not the issue your battery will die after a round or two of your favorite first person shooter, they're trying to make the phone actually last a full day. Honestly with these specs it's no easy task.
