Help Voice Phone Dial randomly opening, music tracks skipping around - phone acts "possessed"

Hi all, couldn't find a similar thread... long time listener first time caller.

I've noticed this since I bought the phone (I had other issues before such as low battery life, vibration feedback simply not working, etc - I hard reset the phone and those went away, but this is back), and I'm wondering if it's my hardware, or the software.

Basically, if I'm listening to music (Pandora or the Music app), it'll randomly hit Next song - if it's the music app, it'll be a mish-mash of fast forward and next track. This is with the phone screen off or on. When it starts happening I turn the screen on and notice it jumping all over, and I've not touched anything. Additionally, while this is happening, voice dialer opens over and over after I close it, and sometimes it'll just start making a call to the last dialed/received number (which is making me a hit with all my friends).

Finally, I say possessed because this is not consistent. For example, I'm listening to Pandora now with no issues. However, the fact that I have to even worry about this happening again (it's almost surefire in the car, for some reason, but not exclusive to there) is a dealbreaker, and my 30 day trial is still going, so I should probably decide.

Has anyone else had this issue? Does my hardware sound busted? Any tips?

Edit: Just realized there is one commonality: this only happens when I have something plugged into the 3.5" jack.

Do you get the voice dialer stuff, or just the music player problems? I wonder if the 3.5" jack isn't grounded well, and fires off signals for other controls on the phone (wish I knew the shortcut for voice dial to see if that corroborates).

The voice dial stuff happened once or twice, definitely.

It must be a grounding issue, or something with the jack itself. I've replicated with my headphones and my aux cable to connect in my car.

I'm listening on AUX right now on my PC speakers and tried messing with the connection, and couldn't replicate (at least in Pandora). Perhaps it depends on connection snugness. I'll try it in the car on the way home.

I replicate more playing MP3 files from the SD card than when playing streaming music like Last.fm and Pandora.

In fact, I had lots of luck with Last.fm.

i think its the cable. my evo sees my aux cable as a heatset, so when wiggling it it skips tracks and even makes a call.

i tried a regular headphone and it sees it as a headphone - no track skipping when wiggling.

i tried a headset pair with mic and the evo sees it as a headset - no track skipping.

the evo is probably just sensitive to have an exact cable fit. i don't know.
