Organize browser bookmarks?

You can do this with the native apps. It is not elegant and there should be an easier way, but....

Add a new Folder on the home screen (you can rename it favorite or whatever)

Then add a browser shortcut to the home screen, once it is on the screen you can drag it to the new folder. You can do this as often as you like until you have the ones you want in the folder. You can remove the Browser shortcuts from the Home screen and they will still be in the folder.

I had a similar issue, kinda.

I had a ton of firefox bookmarks organized into folders and some had tags. I ended up importing them to my Google bookmarks using google toolbar. Google doesn't support folder for bookmarks but it preserved the folders as tags.

I then used Dolphin Browser on my droid to sync with my google bookmarks. This downloaded all the bookmarks from google to my phone and preserved the "folder tags" (I'll have to double check to make sure it preserves regular tags also)****.

Anyways, this made it easy to search my bookmarks because the dolphin browser has a nice "filter by label (aka folder) or tag" function. It's not perfect but it helps. Unfortunately, the tags and labels dont seem to factor into search results. If they did, I almost wouldn't need folders any more.

**** EDIT: it does preserve both types of tags

thank you all 3 for the replies...i thought there was no hope for having usable browser bookmarks, but now i see some light at the end of the tunnel! great info.

edit: alostpacket, i think i'm gonna try that method. little bit of manual work up front, but seems to be what i'm looking for.

oh, how i wish xmarks was integrated into this phone.

You're welcome :)

Yeah same here, I found this solution while looking for a way to sync my xmarks.

One other thing I tried that's pretty ghetto is just to set my homepage to Xmarks Mobile

It would show a nice list of all bookmarks in a sort of threaded view.
