New to the forums, the Droid and Android OS... Have a couple questions...

Hello everyone! I just purchased a Motorola Droid on Friday and have been playing with it non-stop all weekend... I do have a couple, maybe silly, questions...

1) Whenever I power my phone off for the night then plug it in to charge, it keeps turning on. Is this normal? Is there any way to stop this from happening? Will this have an impact on my battery life?

2) Is there any way to change the sounds for text message, emails, and other notifications? I am coming from a Blackberry where EVERYTHING has its own sound.

3) I've been looking through the "Most Popular App" threads and, of course, am open to your suggestions. Is there anywhere online where I can easily look at all of the available apps/programs?

Thanks for the help!

1. Mine does that to and must be unique to Motorola, my G1 didn't do that.

2. Under sound and display you can set a defualt notification tone. From there you have to go to each respective app to change notification. Go to messaging and hit menu and you will see where you can change notification sound. Do the same for email, etc.

3. Go to Cyrket.com from your desktop browser.

I just loaded it and it didn't work for me either... Oh well...

Thanks for clearing up my charging and ringtone problems! Is there a way to download new ringtones/alert sounds to the Android OS? For a long time I used nothing but Mario sounds (1 Up, Star, Theme Song). Can I do that again on here?

I downloaded Mabilo from the market. It doesn't have a huge library of choices but it does have some good ones and it's free and easy. It allows you to assign the ring as soon as you have downloaded it.

ETA: Nevermind. It doesn't work. It said it successfully assigned the ringtone but that isn't what rings when that contact calls. I know because my daughter just called me and it is still using the tone that I put on from the phone library.

That site always worked for me. I think because of all the new Android based phones being released, the Market has undergone some changes and maybe it needs to be updated.

For custom sounds you just make a folder on your SD card called audio and put whatever sounds you want in there. Then when you go to change the sound, it should appear as an option. Ringdroid is a great free app you can use to make ringtones right on your phone.

Turning off your phone to save battery power when ur in an area that has no signal...or in an airplane..etc...i can understand.
But why power it off at night when its plugged into to charge? Its plugged in and charging so ..who cares if its on? And the screen goes off after a few moments on its own so you dont have to worry about glare while u sleep.
Just wondering why this would be an issue...

I got used to my BlackBerry changing to a specific nighttime profile when docked on my nightstand , very convenient. My Touch Pro and Touch Pro2 did not do this so I got in the habit of turning them of at night rather than deal with the alerts or turning the volume off and continually forgetting to turn it back up the next day. I would assume similar circumstances for our square little friend...
