Appointment Reminders

2.1 seems to have changed the way reminders are presented. Back on 1.5 if I had a reminder set at 30 minutes it would chirp and place an indicator in the notification curtain where I could dismiss the reminder with one swipe. Now with 2.1 I'm getting repeatedly notified every 5 minutes until the appointment starts and there is no noticeable way to make it stop. I swear I saw a setting for that somewhere but I'll be darned if if I can find it again.

Any ideas?

To edit the reminder settings for the stock calendar, open Calendar>Menu>More>Settings

Is this what you were asking?

No, I don't believe so. I've been in there a bunch of times and that seems like the most logical place but I can't find it.

I seem to remember a spot where one could set the frequency of "secondary" reminders. I'm sure it wasn't called "secondary" but that's all I can come up with from memory. Maybe it was called "repeat" reminders. It was a setting something like:

Once I have been reminded, repeat every X minutes.

Damn man, sorry I cannot find such a setting. Maybe another forum member has more experience. Have you considered another calendar app or something similar from the market?

it sounds like your Snoozing the reminder, instead of Dismissing it.
Maybe so. You could be right that I'm snoozing on the initial notification but with the subsequent notifications there isn't any opportunity to dismiss. The phone just beeps and there is no indication as to why. There is nothing in the notifications area and no pop-up, just the beep.

I have been having a similar problem with reminders since 2.1. I can hear the reminder, but when I pull the phone out of my pocket the trackball will scroll and snooze the reminder before I can see what the reminder was for. Then in order to dismiss the reminder, I have to leave the phone out of my pocket so that once the snoozed reminder comes back up I can dismiss it . I don't remember the trackball working this way on 1.5 and I can't find a way to disable it. I can recreate this by simply setting a test reminder and when the alert comes up I scroll the trackball and it snoozes the alert. Is anyone else seeing this?

I am on the leak 2.1v3

I always dismiss the reminder.

Here is what happened last night: a reminder pings, the display comes on with the swipe down to dismiss, but the display turned off before I could swipe (this happens often.) However, turning on the phone and swiping did not show a reminder notification. However, the phone kept giving the reminder notification sound every 5 minutes, all without the option to dismiss or snooze, all without a reminder notification to dismiss or snooze from. For this particular event, I had a second reminder, and when that one triggered, I was finally able to dismiss it.

I had a calendar hang this morning when trying to open it, and had to force close the app.

This has been the only true annoyance since the 2.1 upgrade.

Ted, this is driving me nuts too! I have the Evo. It's not such a pain when I'm by my phone, but birthday reminders that go off at 12am.. ugh. So if we aren't there to dismiss or snooze, it's ding ding ding every darn 5 minutes! There's got to be a way to fix this.

I searched some apps and there's something called "calendar snooze" but I haven't downloaded it yet. It suppose to give you more options with the reminders, but not sure if it will fix this problem. I'm new to android, so I'm taking it slow with downloading apps that mess with the main stuff. :)

Any update on this? I've been having similar issues...and it's driving me NUTS when my birthday reminders go off at midnight while my phone is on the dresser.

This happens with alll recurring events with no time entered.

Since my original post that started this thread the problem has gone away.

First off, I think the problem was with the native Exchange calendar, not the Google calendar. What makes me say this is that since I posted back in May I have ditched the native Exchange application for Touchdown. I didn't want to pay the $20 bucks for Touchdown but Exchange email and calendars are vital for me and Touchdown has been much more dependable and full featured than the Exchange app that comes on the Eris.

Twenty bucks is a lot of dough for an Android application but when you compare it to the price of a meal in a nice restaurant for instance, it seems like a pretty good deal.

I am having the same issue with appointment reminders reoccuring or, more importantly, hearing the notification, pulling the phone out of my holster and seeing nothing in the task bar and/or as an alert. I rely on these notifications to remind me of things every day. I confirmed today after reading this thread that the roller ball is setting the notifications to snooze and making them disappear, and it gets rolled every time the phone comes out of my holster or pocket. Is there any way to disable the roller ball that anyone knows of?

Trying Gemini calendar, but it wasn't sending notifications until I turned that function back on in the stock calendar app. And I think it still goes to snooze when ball is rolled.
