Home Replacements

Here are some home replacements I've tried on my N1 with 2.2

ADW.Launcher
Very nice, I love the transparent App list option, but LauncherPro is smoother/faster.

Home++
I like the dock, but it was buggy. FC a lot. App list loading crashes nearly every time.

LauncherPro Beta
My current favorite, still using it.
I really like how you can have 5 icon rows on the home screens, as opposed to the standard 4. And the customizable bottom dock + hiding the white notification bar = win.

Any others I've missed? Pre-FroYo, I used HelixLauncher2. I've tried Zeam (crap), Helix (version 2 was OK pre-FroYo), OpenHome (crap), and aHome (crap).

Any other recommendations?

I'm running Launcher Pro now, wasn't aware of it before this thread.
How do I re-launch my old homre replacement (Home++) So that I can copy my layout?

Also I'm having problems getting Pure Music widget onto my homescreen whilst on Launcher Pro, after saving the skin and exiting it just doesn't appear, anyone else had this problem?

Hi mate, go into settings/applications/manage applications/select Launcher pro then scroll to bottom and select clear defaults.

Then when you click on home it will ask you which replacement to use ;) Hope that helps.

ADW is my personal fav...followed closely by launcher pro. I have pretty much tried them all:
Helix 1 and 2
tag home
zeam
launcher pro
adw
panda
home++
slidescreen (which is pretty neat I must say) needs work tho
ihome (IPUKE...hows that for a magical experience)
sweeter home...which is pretty sweet, but a really steep learning curve.

Hey x IF all IE IN,
If you don't mind, can you do a comparison with a couple of pros/cons of what you like about each home replacements you've used?

I've tried Helix2, ADW, laucherPro, which I felt all offered the same basic launcher features except launcherPro did it faster and better with the smoother scrolling and 5 rows option.

If you're going to switch back and forth often, download home switcher :)

Ok Rozw, Ill do the best I can from what I remember lol

Launcher Pro - its fast and clean and really nice. but I get to many fc's for my liking. Im running nexus one stock 2.1 update1/

ADW - FLAWLESS!

SlideScreen - Now, while I love the look of winmo,,,this pretty much reminds me of that. However, the lack of customization kills it for me. I dont mind having one screen, especially since all the info I need is right there...I need more customization...wallpapers, widgets, etc. Other than that, I really like slidescreen and keep downloading it in hopes of updates.

Helix 1&2 - Use to be good....if you compare this to Launcher Pro or ADW it becomes obsolete in my opinion. Launcher pro and ADW do everything Helix does but much better.

Home++ - I LOVE IT!!!! the ONLY reason why I dont use this over ADW or anything else is simply because the dev abandened this app. no more updates causes it to be slow and laggy at times. I really wish the dev would step up to his app and give ALOT of people what they want...which is UPDATES!!!! LOL

Panda - If I remember correctly, this home app has little pull out bars on the side, which were kinda cool. BUT! If I also remember correctly this app sent my phone into a fc loop. Had to turn it off and quickly uninstall it.

ihome- Dont know what I was thinking, but magical experience my ass....what a hunk of junk! dont even bother with it. fc fc fc fc fc the app should be renamed to iforceclose all the time

Well Roze, hows that?

Thanks x IF all IE IN :)

Your summary gives me an idea of the other apps that the reviews don`t really say :)

With LauncherPro I had barely any FC until the last 2 updates...which I have to say does not play nice with some of the widgets (100% FC with SimpleNote)

I think why I choose LP over ADW is that I can handle the FC if they are not too frequent. Hopefully the LP`s dev gets that fixed on the next update. I like the speed and 5 rows of apps.

I was going to try home++...but read about the dev went MIA...that`s not a good thing for an app...no matter how `good`it is.

The forceclosing I get from LP is becoming more and more annoying. I don't get them a lot...but it happens and it bugs me. With ADW, I haven't had 1 issue yet, the speed is the same or better then LP then options you have with ADW are superior...being able to set your own home screen speed is great and bounceback. I love the fact that when I pull up my app drawer I can make the background transparent rather than pitch black. I love sliding left to right rather than up and down in the app drawer..its something totally different. And I dont care much about having 3d scrolling in the app drawer. So those are the reasons why I choose ADW over launcher pro. Especially the hidden home screen dock that ADW has....stuff 6 more icons in there for easy access with the swipe of your finger lol.
Dont get me wrong, I wouldn't ditch launcher pro because it is awesome as well. But it lacks some features that I have in ADW that I like.
Now im just waiting for either Launcher Pro or ADW to release a update so you can have a transparent notification bar....or at least being able to set your own opacity in the notification bar....now thats sweet!!!

I have also notice the FC's are on the rise since the past few updates. I can live with the amount now, but anymore and I am going to have to start looking for a replacement.

Yes, ADW gives you much more options and control of your home screen. For the screen speed, I left it as is since I read somewhere that the dev has it set at the optimal speed. The 5 rows really did sell me with LP. If the dev adds that option to ADW, then I'll jump ship. Better yet...those 2 developers should marry their apps!

Well...if a dev can make the notification bar customizable with transperancy/colour, I think EVERYONE will jump ship to his app. There seem to be an increase in complaints about burnt in notification bar pixels. I mean is there a home replacement app that allows you to customize the notificiation bar since the only way I know how to do it is through rooting (one reason why some people haver rooted).

I was running Home++, have tried ADW and am now running LauncherPro

Home++ just wasn't doing it for me anymore, sometimes opening the app draw took quite a while.
I've since moved to LauncherPro and love it. It's super fast.

If in ADW you could have more shortcuts either side of the app draw button I think I'd stick with it. I like that you can have 2 either side on LP.

Well you can have 1 icon on the left and 1 on the right. Also, if you drag the app drawer button upwards it reveils another hidden dock that you can add 6 more icons. So your fatal is actually 8 all in one convienent spot.
Also Roze...I believe Adw allows you to set the number of rows you want. Download it and give it a shot.

Glad I found this thread. I have been using Launcherpro for a few days now and really like it. The 3d app drawer is cool. Just downloaded adw and helix since I have seen many people on here talk about them. However, after reading this thread I am not gong to bother with helix. I really like the look of panda from those who posted their UI layout on the big thread but I thought you had to root to get it. May delete helix and try to get panda.

Anyway thanks all!!

P.S. haven't had any force closes with launcherpro..... yet
