Would you trade Eris for Moto Droid?

Hey all,

I had to buy a certified preowned phone from Verizon recently (went Eris) since my wife lost her phone wayyyy before renewal time. I love the Eris as a gadget ("gorgeous" isnt enough), I love the feel, I looooove the HTC user interface, etc.

But since I am paying a high price (about $150) I feel really grumpy about how laggy the Eris is. Takes forever to make calls. Can slow down doing other minor tasks - enough that its annoying. It just so under powered. :(

If you were in my situation, with a couple weeks left to go to make a decision, would you consider trading the Eris in for a Motorola Droid? Its about $100 more, but since I will be using the phone til at least December 2011, I think I should try for the most capable phone I can get.

Ideas?

Thanks

If you are ready to pay an extra $100, I'd suggest the Incredible too. You'll get the faster processor and a much sleeker design than the Moto droid

The problem is... the Incredible isnt offered as part of the CPO program. Its the Eris or the Droid. Eris was $175, Droid is $289. To buy the Incredible without a contract is about $500. Way out of my price range...

I know technically $289 is too much for the droid but its my only other option. :(

I could swear that the specs pro and con for the Droid and the Eris have been posted here somewhere and it didn't appear to be much of a difference. I suppose the HTC Sense UI could be the root of some evil in comparisons. But honestly....I love my Eris, haven't had any issues since the OTA and think that the phone works pretty damn hard for what it is.

So....bottom line is that IF I had to make a choice between the Droid and the Eris (and I DID make that choice) I would still go Eris. It's price point surely has to play into this. I don't look at the Droid forums....do those users have issues?

I dunno maybe the grass ISN'T greener?

I looked at the Motorola Droid and the Eris in early November. I had every intention of purchasing the Droid. However, the Droid did not handle a web app that I needed at the time (works now, didn't then), but it worked perfectly on the Eris. I did not like the form factor, weight, shape, or keyboard on the Droid (but it has a powerful processor and was rooted fairly quickly). I walked-out of VZW with my Eris and have been very happy since.

However...I should add, that given what I've learned about Android and the variety and capabilties of the phones now, I might have waited and made a different choice. Don't get me wrong, I love my Eris (for many, many reasons). But, my next phone will be a beast! I hope to avoid Sense or Motoblur so that there is less of a delay in releasing new versions on Android. I am anxiously awaiting details about the Droid 2 and Droid X(treme)/Shadow. I'm not a huge texter, so a physical keyboard is not a must. Plus, I'll still have my rooted Eris in my back pocket as a very capable backup. Just my 2-cents.

I haven't even read through these but a sampling of thread titles from the Droid forum pretty much looks like the Eris forum:

haha so we all have the same problems! maybe we should all get together on forums and try to figure these out. One thing that doesn't work on the droid might work on the eris and something that doesn't work on the eris might work on the droid.

I honestly think the eris is a better phone, if you want to play, root, do games then get the droid. Droid is clunky, and to the ear the eris is one of the most comfortable phones to talk on I've used. Disregard "bar" threads too reception is up there with the best. I would keep eris, at least until the new keyboardless moto comes out.

Here's a thought I didn't include eariler. I like HTC because their devices seem more "standard". The Moto Droid has a proprietary usb port that only takes the Moto cable. My Eris (and the Incredible) have a usb port that "looks" special, but isn't. When I need to charge or move files or whatever, I can scrounge around and find (almost) any old usb cable with the standard connector. My friend with the Droid can't do that.

I think the headphone jack on the Droid is the same as the Eris (and the iPhone) 3.5 mm. I have constant frustration with the kids' LG phones because the headphone jacks are those stupid 2.5 mm, and they're always looking for adapters.

Just a thought. Standard is good.

I was looking at tech specs... the Droid has a 550 MHz processor. The Eris is 528 MHz. What accounts for the difference in speed? Is the A8 processor just better designed? Is it because the Droid only has 3 home screens while the Eris has 7?

The Droid's processor is newer. It's like the Droid's processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo and the Eris' processor is like an Intel Pentium.

I have a rooted Eris and I love it! You can over clock the processor and get crazy speed, mine is running at 787 MHz. Some of the phones on the horizon intrigue me, but over a Droid I'll stick to my Eris any day.

I would love to do this but as a non-programmer (but fairly tech savy) the process for rooting is daunting. Even reading the how-to threads I am like.... say what now? LOL...
